Why is Hal Jordan's Green Lantern ring always running out of power in HBO's Lanterns? After Episode 5 "Lights Out," I think the answer has nothing to do with batteries. It's about the oath, the Guardians, and why Hal broke his own ring on purpose.

I noticed the way Hal says the oath immediately. He did NOT believe the words he was saying, like little kids mouthing the words to the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in unison.

What i don't understand is why he went to jail for 8-10 years. Hal Jordan didn't even kill Zoey Manhunter nor did he cause the destruction.

Its capacity is shit because that ring including that Hal is just part of the original ring. We never see Prime Hal that Sinestro is in cahoots with. It's also why Halogram is 2006 the latest, because you can't back up on just a chunk of the ring.

Did he snap a piece off tho.. or was that just a (green) spark from him scrapping the edge of the ring with what i can i only assume was a pocket knife. I imagine the rings are built with tougher materials that dont jus have pieces snapping off easily.

He seems to have these covert methods of activating hidden functions on his ring.. like hitting it flush to gain a one-time 5% re-up when low.

As a 5% phone user, I feel like Hal feels that the Lantern ring bears more responsibility to how it should be used and the choices he can do without it.

He strapped a price of the ring of so the the hologram would technically have its own ring so halogram can be separate but he doesn’t realize it and Hal doesn’t want the best version of him to appear whenever he wants to remind him of who he used to be, so he made it so he has to chip a piece off so that part isnt bound by his self hatred or whatever it may be, like king piccolo getting separated

4:00 I saw a guy saying that probably That's because hal doesn't believe in the will power as he used to, and that's why he also doesn't get the green aura when he flies. He needs to Say the oath to "get" a necesary amount of will power

This season ends with the ring being needed, but low in power. Jon has no choice but to charge the ring. To have the ring on his finger, plugged into the Lantern, and Jon has to say the oath. Creating Jon as Green Lantern.

Hal's being "secretly" replaced, not merely retiring. Forced retirement.

Manhunters wiped out many races and civilizations, which is why they were destroyed. Survivors of one such massacre are hunting what they believe to be the last remaining Manhunter.

Great take on the ring's constant low charge reflecting Hal's decreased belief in the cause.

The backup being so out of date, is probably since Sinestro's betrayal. The low powered ring is probably to prevent an update. Or maybe the lantern is boobytrapped and Hal knows it.
