What if Hal Jordan’s funeral wasn’t really the end of his story?

In Lanterns Episode 6, Hal’s eulogy starts out exactly how you’d expect from him  arrogant, dramatic, and completely convinced that the entire universe would show up to mourn the legendary Green Lantern.

But then something changes.

Hal starts talking about the person who comes after him.

And John Stewart is the one standing there listening.

The more you look at the eulogy alongside everything Hal did before his death, the more it starts to feel like Hal may have left John one final message. The ring, the Halogram, the strange clues, Guy Gardner’s signal, the storage unit, and Hal’s warning to John all seem to connect in ways that could completely change how we understand Episode 6.

John spent ten years trying to escape the Green Lantern life. He built a new career, created a new identity, and tried to leave Rushville and Hal Jordan behind.

But after Hal dies, John does the exact opposite.

He stays.

He investigates.

He digs up Hal’s grave.

And then he puts the ring back on.

So was Hal’s eulogy really a goodbye?

Or was it the final push John needed to become Green Lantern again?

In this video, we break down Hal Jordan’s final message, John Stewart’s reaction, the hidden meaning behind the eulogy, the clues Hal may have left behind, and why the ending of Episode 6 could actually be the beginning of John Stewart’s second Green Lantern story.

If Hal really was counting on John, then his final words may have been much more important than they first appeared.

What do you think Hal was trying to tell John?
