Why can't parents just be normal with their kids 😭

i asked my dad if he wanted a girl or a boy and he looked me dead in the eyes and said "whatever was fine, as long as you were breathing" and i think as far as having children goes, that should be the main concern

Reminds me of how people say really small children (especially boys) are "flirting." NO THEY'RE NOT.

I've known more than one woman whose core identity was so deeply intertwined with abstinence and staying pure, that getting married shattered their sense of self, and they needed intensive therapy to feel safe enough to engage in any type of intimacy

The paternalistic protectors are so cynical towards men who want to date their daughters because they remember how they treated girls at that age.....or still do.

i hate it when two kids of opposite gender are playing together and people are like they are gonna marry each other when they grow up. this happened to me as a child and it used to make me so uncomfortable that it ended up ruining so many friendships.

Always loved that my dad treated me "like a boy" not because he wanted a boy but because I wanted to play "like a boy" which is really just called being a kid lol. He'd toss/slam me into the pool or sofa when we would rough play, we would go dig in the mud and the creek, build model wooden planes and fly them. I will forever be thankful I had parents that bought me 'boy' and 'girl' toys. RC cars, hot wheels, baseball/football but at the same time figure skating, ballet, baby dolls and frilly clothes. I genuinely think having such a non-judgemental upbringing at such a young age is why I am the loud, passionate, independent woman I am today (with hobbies and jobs people still like to assign to men). Just raise your child like a child, not like a boy or a girl. ❤

Even when a girldad is normal, the other men around him are often not.  My dad was a girldad in the best kind of way, and would get told to  "savor it now, in 5 years she's going to be a bitch" when talking about how happy he was in the dynamic he had built with me. An absolutely wild thing to say about an 8-year-old, and notably, my twin brother never once got remarks like that. My dad never internalized any of that, thank god, but talk about setting a parent up for failure.

My parents divorced when I was a toddler and I saw my dad every other weekend and the summer. He taught me and my AMAB sibling to ride bikes and bought us dirt bikes. He bought us both gameboys, never did that whole “video games are for boys” bs. Same with comics. My dad loves comics and he was stoked that both his children love comics. He’s proud that we both can cook. He was in the navy, so we both were responsible for household chores. And although during the summer my hair was in protective styles, during the school year for the weekends, he did my hair. And I never looked bad.

Both my parents made me a feminist in positive ways. I am still his princess in my late thirties, but when we talk, he speaks to me as his adult daughter, rather than his “child”. Now he did tell me he wanted sons, but it was because that’s what he was taught to want. He was thrilled when I was born lol (my parents opted to not know the sex of both me and my sibling when pregnant). He was upset with himself for ever thinking he didn’t want a daughter. We actually have very similar dispositions.

My dad is pretty misogynistic and before I went no contact with him we had a lot of arguments about it. He blamed my brother's divorce on his ex wife entirely saying "the right woman would have made it work". In reality my brother had a role to play in the break down of that relationship.

As someone whose dad molested them starting at age 9. I took the idea of "dad owns me" very hard. He wasn't religious, and very open sexually to everyone. That just taught me, my own body isn't something personal and all men would probably do the same. When in reality, that is very much not the case. Such an odd shock when THAT is your normal, it take so much unlearning.

As someone who wants to have a daughter one day I’m grateful that videos and conversations like this exist. It’s honestly insane how some parents can’t see how undeserving they are to have daughters and children in general due to not seeing them as people.

Why don't men concern themselves with raising sons who respect women and girls as well as teaching their daughters that they deserve to be respected?

it just angers me sm when grown adults assume the worst (sexually or romantically) of their kids- the double standards for going outside, having a gf/bf or even travelling is SO different for girls than boys + religion plays a part in south asian households for sure

I will never forget the fact that my father coached my brother in baseball every year, but when my sister and I frequently struggled to find coaches for our teams, he refused to coach us, because "girls are too chatty and gossipy." 🙃

"no dating until you're (insert age)" is basically those dads saying all men are trash (except them??) and she won't be able to make a good choice anyways and shouldn't be trusted with her decision making
