Childfree shaming is back and it's getting scary

Should you have kids if you're not sure? Do we owe the world children just because we have a uterus? And what on earth is going on with all the shaming and propaganda now?! Healthy gamer GG AKA Dr. Alok Kanojia (aka Dr. K) was on the Diary of a CEO podcast recently where he blamed women for not being with incels, and said we're causing a mass extinction. Jennifer Lawrence was recently on the Smartless Podcast and said people should only have kids if they are 100% sure, and we should actually be turning the questioning around to ask why it is people do want kids. And of course, the Heritage Foundation is stirring things up with their pronatalist views sending a scary huge document to Trump full of "measures" that should be implemented including a marriage bootcamp 😬

What "reasons" have you been given that I missed?

Not so fun fact, I've had people I've only just met pray for me to have children when I've told them (happily and firmly) i can't have them as I try to shut the conversation down. Afterwards I've just looked up and said "don't you dare" 🙄🙅🏼‍♀️

Funny they always say "women should have kids even if they don't want them" instead of "men should be required to care for their children even if they don't want to".

@kat_yaps 8 months ago

a lot of men want kids the same way kids want puppies

Anyone else Hates when someone says “Who’s gonna take care of you when you’re Old”, like that just seems like a selfish reason to have a Kid. 🤨

Dude bros: "Look at the state of society; we need to bring back natural selection."

Dudebros finding their traits unselected for: "Not like That"

It's funny that there's always a correlation between a good economy and a boom in babies but politicians always ignore that in order to be able to put down women

@heyhey439 8 months ago

They always focus on women who DON'T want children instead of helping women who DO want kids to find actually deserving men and resources and safety nets and compensation for the risks and work? Like make it make sense! Make it actually worth the effort

“If you don’t want children, you’re deluded or immature.”

Okay. I’m immature. I can live with that. Conversation over.

I never thought about the fact that so much of this type of propaganda uses drawings or very staged photos, instead of photos of real mothers. That is a very good point.

Normalize being blunt & rude as fuck on a dime to anyone that gives you crap about not having kids.

If you regret not having a child and can no longer conceive one, you can mentor a child or adopt one. The solutions are so much easier than becoming a regretful parent.

"Childfree shaming is back"

Are you telling me it once went away?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

@jenicakness7035 5 months ago

I grew up with both parents making it very obvious they hated the sacrifices that comes with parenting. Then they have the audacity to ask “when is the first grandbaby?” Baffling logic.

The idea that women can just, "go back," to their careers when their kids are older is just not true. Most stay at home moms who try to enter the workforce again later have a really hard time getting a job because they have gaps in work history that are years long (sometimes over a decade) and it tells employers they put their kids over work, so if they ever get sick the women will leave work to care for her child (which there's nothing wrong with, but is a factor). You can't "just go back to work later"

@Naxthural 8 months ago

They want to do literally anything to increase the birth rate except treating women like *people*.

"Not having a child is selfish" but also, "My child is a resource for taking care of me when I'm older" Dude MAKE it make SENSE!

I’m a guy and I really don’t want kids. My dad was never really around growing up, and when he was he preferred me to be “seen not heard” and only started paying attention to me when I was a teenager who already resented him and grew up learning I wasn’t important to him. I don’t want another kid to grow up that way, and the one way I am like my dad is that I don’t really like little kids. I respect that they are people and deserve better treatment, but I don’t generally like being around them, and I don’t want a kid to grow up with me as a dad. Plus, I have a lot of sensory issues, and I already can’t handle being in loud hectic environments for too long, so I know I wouldn’t be able to handle the constant screaming and mess of a newborn, and I’ll be damned of I make a partner go through that with an uninvolved and unhelpful husband. I’ll make a kick ass uncle, but a terrible dad.

"No man wants you if you dont want to have children"
I guess I have to inform my husband of 17 years that he does not want me because neither of us wants to have children 😢

I would rather regret not having children than regretting having children

Girl I was on a date once with a man a decade older than me and he popped the 'who's going to look after you when you get old' question.
I responded 'probably the same care home your kids put you in' and he was stunlocked. I still think about it on occasion and it sparks joy.
