The original is like deep, drowning vibes in the darkness. Chad's version is like nope, we're going to fight it to the death

The original song feels so pained, I get vibes of desperate plea, a cry to the dark.  Chad's take on it feels like a tribal, tantric howl at the sky. So interesting every time.

I like this version of the song better, there should be a "Chad fixes song" series, what an amazing musician.

I came to the youtubeverse to watch a completely different video and got sucked into another chad smith wormhole for two days...... 😂😂😂😂

Listening to the original and then Chad's version, the only comparison I can give it is going from a drummer just paid to do the money shots, to an artist that is pouring his heart on the beat.  I can't unhear Chad's version.

Drummers never get enough appreciation, Chad is definitely 1000% one of the best, my percentage is low. This man playing stuff on the fly to near perfection is astounding. He's amazing.

I know nothing about drums but this guys speaks fluent drums and it allows me to appreciate the music so much more. Thanks for the video.

His instincts are just so good. A lot of these drumeo videos they give it a listen. Maybe two. Then do a few takes.
Chad just gets the time signature and the feel and just SENDS IT. And it sounds like it fits and could be the original part every time.

He’s the only one that I ever see who takes off on the first listen. Everyone else listens through one or more times. His 2nd attempt would be even more killer than this. He is a master at keeping time.

I love so much that he’s using the cymbals as more of a punctuation instead of a constant background.

Chad is NEVER on top drummers of all-time lists, but I bet that because if these sessions, people are going to FINALLY realize just how good he has always been. Something Chili Peppers fans and some big music fans from my 90’s teen generation already knew.

He's a master jammer. He's explained that a lot of RHCP songs are jammed originally to get ideas

I love your reactions. So many just do a watch along with a few comments. If I just want to watch a drum video, I will watch the original. Your breakdown is what transforms the video into something worth watching.

“You take the music seriously, but you don't take yourself seriously.”
Man, that’s a great description of Chad—and a great philosophy to approach creative work.
Thanks!

Chad absolutely is a chad when it comes to these  not-even-listening-thru  improvs. As someone said elsewhere,  "at this point pro drummers will employ Active Listening, whereas Chad employs Active Drumming"  LOL
I'm not a drummer, but as a bass player I probably appreciate a good drummer more than most, & I want to say you do a great job with these vids.
All the best from a random subscriber in sunny Scotland!   :)

It speaks volumes for the positive and informative nature of your reaction that I felt chuffed for you when Chad mentioned the word "tribal"

Honestly, if the drums sounded like this, I'd probably listen to song alot more.

If you look at the part where he goes quiet, he actually was going to do it 8 bars earlier but the instruments were still loud so he kept the tribal thing going and kinda nods like ‘oh, ok we’re still loud’.  Pretty sure the quiet part is a little formulaic. And with pop it would be expected. It just wasn’t where he thought.

I think one of the biggest indications of Chad's skill, is that he actually impressed Neil Peart, and they became pretty good friends when it came to drum theory and execution.  If you can make a reclusive introvert like Peart take notice and applaud you for your talent, then you've got some serious chops.

The wildest thing about these drumeo videos, like you said, is how positive and interested each of the drummers are in their own ways.  They've all been good natured about "this is how I'd do it, but hey they did some really cool and interesting things in the original as well."  It also gives you an insight into some of their quirks.  It kind of makes sense that Chad Smith is more of a Jammer, but Dirk from Megadeth being a much more methodical "lets chart this out, organize my thoughts, and then give this song a try" kind of attitude is really interesting.  Fascinating to see the upper echelons of the craft operate.
