Today's video isn't a reaction to a song...
It's a reaction to one of my favourite drummers reacting to a song.
Leprous drummer Baard Kolstad sits down to hear Disturbed's Down With The Sickness for the very first time, and his enthusiasm is absolutely infectious.
From the opening seconds, you know you're in for a ride.
The shirt comes off...
The volume goes up...
And we're all in!
What I love about Baard isn't just his incredible technique.
It's his attitude.
His energy is completely authentic, and his passion for music jumps off the screen.
As a drummer, I also love watching the way he attacks the kit.
There's a real Stewart Copeland-style aggression to his playing. Every note has intent, every accent means something, and yet he never loses the pocket.
The ideas.
The chops.
The groove.
Baard is the complete package.
Love me some Baard!

Baard's enthusiasm is impossible not to smile at.
Before he even plays a note, you know exactly what kind of ride you're in for.
Then, once he gets behind the kit...
The attack.
The pocket.
The ideas.
The sheer joy of playing.
It all comes together.
I also couldn't help hearing a little Stewart Copeland in the way he attacks the drums. Every note has purpose and conviction.
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
What do you think makes Baard Kolstad such a unique drummer?
And if you've followed his career, what performance should I react to next?
