You forgot a crucial detail! Reznov was confirmed to have survived the breakout in emails  in the computer. This implies that K/D/S kept him alive, most likely because they were working with Reznov.

It's true, Vorkuta was shut down in 1962, although my headcanon is that in the Black Ops universe, Dragovich purchased the gulag after it was shut down for his own twisted experiments.

"Viktor Reznov was a communist. How do you know you weren't compromised?"

8:47 i always thought it was weird that reznov a supposed "prisoner" would have access to the room where mason was brainwashed.

I was always under the impression that the 3 guys were trying to brainwash Mason in Vorkuta NOT send him there after they failed, and the brainwashing didn't work not because of Mason's huge willpower but because of Reznov's INDIRECT interference. Brainwashin wasn't done in one quick session, probably took several over some time, and in between those sessions Mason would be brought back to his cell where Reznov would talk 24/7 about how much he HATES those 3, and that imprinted on Mason's mind along with jfk assasination. Well, their brainwashing actually worked, but because of Reznov's imrpinting it looked like it didn't at the time.

"Black Ops 1 is the most historically accurate campaign" Meanwhile Mason has an MP5 in 1963.

this theory demands we ignore the entire mission where we experience Reznov's memories and why he wants them dead, which is to say, a massive stretch to just ignore that and chalk it up to lies.

Also, this is such a leap in terms of practicality that is makes zero sense.

Our attempted sleeper agent failed so we'll throw them into a prison with our double agent and have our double agent, with far less resources than us, brainwash our sleeper agent and hope he doesn't die during a prison break?

Like, come on, no.
Developers obviously thought it would be cool to try and have everything come full circle with Mason being the JFK shooter, or at the very least imply it without confirming it.

And then there's everything that happens after Blackops1, which I don't know about you, but I don't think anyone would let Mason continue on working for the government if he really did kill a president.

The overlap between IRL and the game is so intriguing!

There is definitely something off, no way Reznov survived Vorkuta without help. I always thought it would have been in CW for him to be Perseus, or at least heavily involved with them considering how he is.

16 years later I learn Reznov was the enemy... This feels like real betrayal

so maybe it was reznov that kept everyone alive in the desert in bo2

a big question i never see asked: how the hell could reznov know how to implant orders in mason's head, being a prisoner for so many years and a soldier in the years before? it took a scientist and 2 other people to do it, and reznov could override what they did? alone? in a gulag without the 3 knowing anything? that sounds strange

Maybe the 3 names added by Resnov was not a failsafe, but a trigger to activate the numbers, like a inception MK Ultra....to get the brainwash to work maybe they needed Mason feeling the hate for the 3 names, or maybe to control better the "after", like erasing his memory by adding more stuff

After all these years, I'm starting to think reznov was an undercover KGB agent whose purpose was to disable Drakovich and Steiner's plan since it would become a major treath to the USSR.

Edit 1: John Trent is Reznov, his messages confirm he was involved into a major plot. (I won't explain it again my message got messed up).

Another edit: he also knew about the numbers very well, he even translated a few. And the quote "victory can not be achieved without sacrifice" sent to Kennedy himself, implies there's even a more complex plot happening underneath the entire story. He knew JFK was going to get shot, but he says it as if JFK himself also knew it, and that it was for a greater purpose. Maybe he had to die for the CIA to finally capture Mason and figure out the numbers so they could stop Drakovich's plan with Nova 6.

I've been screaming about this for years ffs.
Congrats for putting it out on the internet so more people can see.

I remember seeing reznov in call of duty world at war.   Makes me feel like, some of the guys in the campaigns are way older than the player is lead to believe, because why had reznov not aged a bit since ww2 in waw and bo1 events…

I always just assumed steiner and dragovich discussing over Mason about how he was strong willed was a fake memory implanted through the brainwashing to help "protect" the brainwashing for lack of a better term. If Mason ever realized he was brainwashed he'd remember he was strong willed and think he could fight the brainwashing, but all the while being fooled by it this strengthening it.

Then I also assumed that Reznov didn't brainwash Mason but hijacked the brainwashing.

There was a different uprising in another camp - Kengir. It's more similar to what happens in BO1

Would love to see this extrapolated into bo2. That computer in the main screen might be in a whole new light
