Ah yes, when adult games were not made for children.

COD then: War is bad, even if you survive it.
COD now: Fortnite.

I remember and I pray to god they never remake World at war or the first black ops because they are just going to censor the heck out of it and no doubt get rid of "In memory of the fallen" text.

I often describe CoD WaW as follows:
"Imagine a horror game, but the monster is the most brutal war in history."

The Stalingrad mission particularly affected me because it depicts the point where military bearing had completely eroded on both sides. The killing became primal, more personal. It stopped being about just trying to take military objectives. We saw first hand how ordinary men, husbands, sons, fathers, were pushed to levels of cruelty that under peaceful circumstances they would never have dreamed to partake in. To be filled with such hatred and fear that they began to butcher men for the sake of butchering itself. Just imagining being put into these circumstances, and knowing if I were in their boots I would be no better is harrowing. This is how you depict war. Show us the ugliest side of it so we should never crave it.

More games need to depict war as horror rather than glorifying and making it a Michael Bay type game

Being scared by WaW zombies was a canon event 😭

I remember there was modded battlefield vietnam servers back in the early 00s that had hanoi hannah saying her speech over and over on loop, was eerie af

9:48 GI this GI that. She calls me GI, she callls the other soldiers GI, she calls herself GI. Last week she says to one of the soldiers "can a GI borrow a fry?" And my first thought wasnt "Oh Im nothing more than a government tool" it was "Now how is a GI gonna borrow a fry? GI is you gonna give it back?"

The problem is that they started catering to an audience the game isn’t rated for, nor was ever intended for.

world at war was genuinely goated. it didn't glorify war or try and make look fun. war is hell and WaW didnt try to hide that fact.

When CoD used of have a soul…

0:13 first time playing as a kid, immediately turned the game off and had to come back days later. Then the zombies, lol the early COD put some hair on our knuckles for sure 😂

Horror doesn't make billions. Microtransactions do. Unfortunately...

I feel the reason COD excised horror from the equation is because they stopped taking war seriously. They went from a series that dabbled in horror and maybe the occasional dark humor to flashy over the top summer blockbuster action films.

In all fairness I personally find the beavis and butthead skins very horrifying

One thing I hate about water in COD is I know there's gonna be a body and I'm already terrified of deep water

World at war was their absolute peak. It’ll never be topped.
