Carley doing half a season is the real world version of putting butter on top of our popcorn so we have to leave the theater mid-movie to get more

I was a full grown adult when the first season aired, and I remember thinking how irresponsible this show was and how it romanticized suicide. This show was basically every suicidal teen’s wish fulfillment fantasy come true—  the whole school is in turmoil over your death, everyone is listening to your tapes and clues left behind and agonizing over it, everyone who wronged you is regretful or learns a lesson and is affected by your death for the rest of their lives, and you’re somehow still around in ghost or spiritual form gloating over everyone’s comeuppance.

also famously her suicide in the book wasn’t as graphic as how they depicted in the show. they just chose to do that!

Unfortnate fact: suicide rates in teens immediately increased following the release of this show. As a therapist, it too often that we STILL hear stories from teens in which their suicide attempt or self harm was triggered by this show :/

"Glee without comedy and singing" is such an apt description, lol

My favorite thing is how Tony looks 35 years old but is supposed to be in high school.

Took you 12 years to do this but thank you

One of the things that irritates me the most about this show is how it completely misses the point of the book. In the book, Hannah wasn't a central figure in most of the characters lives prior to death - Clay wasn't in love with her, they just kissed once at a party. It was all about how you never know what someone is going through, and small slights that you think are inconsequential can really hurt someone. I don't feel like the show portrayed that message at all.

The premise for this show is so counterintuitive. It weirdly validates Hannahs sucide, even in death, she is still everywhere and is able to fulfil her revenge fantasy, even the premise implies there are right reasons to want to end your life. Surely, the show was everything a suicidal teen shouldn't be seeing

The way Carley says “this character is definitely in the tapes” has the same energy as “they’re definitely in the Epstein files”

New Mike’s Mic and uncarley vid in the same week? God IS a woman

i remember schools having to send out letters to parents being like please don’t let you kid watch this show absolutely insane

best line: "I can't be adopted AND gay"

The thought of 'A' in 13 Reasons Why has me in tears

6:36 "the main character is Clay Jenkins" killed me, babe it's Clay Jensen

Not knowing the popular kid drama bc you were in death of a salesman that week truly  the sum of my high school experience

the fact that a show about an animated talking horse had better mental health representation in one episode compared to all the seasons of 13 reasons why is insane

"Alex is not gay in the show" someone obviously hasn't watched season 4 and i honestly can't blame you

I had no business watching this show in 7th grade

11:00  There's a book by Patrick Ness called "The Rest of Us Just Live Here" that is exactly about the other kids that are just watching "the chosen ones" do all that crazy sht.
