Riding a bike at slow speed is more fun than driving a normal car at high speed

Mate, never ride a bike without gloves, if you come off (which you inevitably will do if filtering every day) you will spend months in rehab, and that's the best scenario!

I rode 125s in my teens to get around from A to B but then got my drivers license at 21. Tried the motorcycle theory test and failed it, and parked the idea aside. 15 years later and I got my full motorcycle license. Best thing I’ve done with my life

I passed my A1 test last year on my own bike, Yamaha Xmax 125 scooter, age 59. No lessons, just learned by watching tones of YouTube videos.  I don't have any intentions of sitting a full big boy licence as my 125 does everything I need, on the motorway 65-MPH on the straight, uphill 58 but I'm cool with that and anyway, I don't like fast speeds, for me its the enjoyment and freedom. i stopped riding a motorbike at 21 when i passed my car licence then 3 years ago i decided to get back on a bike and passed my test aged 60. does open up a whole new world.

I am glad to see you started wearing gloves and a proper lid, when you do get a bigger bike go at least 600cc, you need 70+ horses, don't be tempted by 350 to 400ccs they are still not enough for real world big road stuff. If you can find an older bike as well they are far more reliable and rewarding and do not have electronic fripperies that break and cost a fortune to fix. I would look for a bike pre 2012 at least 600ccs. You can get an 5th Gen, 6th Gen Honda VFR800, or a Suzuki SV650 for a couple of K and these bikes are still amongst the best ever made.

I'm with you on your desire to hold on to the 125 once you move to a bigger bike.  I would have liked to have kept mine, but didn't have the space. 125cc is excellent for around town and more.

I'm completely with you. I passed my test aged 60 as a returning rider (34 year break). It is expensive now to get a full licence. but worth it. When it comes to a bigger bike don't go too mad as you'll just be wasting money. I would recommend looking at something in the 50-75bhp bracket. My bike has 74bhp which is more than enough for every day riding plus enough spare for quick bursts of adreneline. Probably better to stick with Japanese but the Chinese bikes are good value for money. We know Japanese are reliable, the Chinese ones have yet to prove this fully which I have no reason to say they won't.

i love this video this guy knows what he is talking about we need more people like him on the roads! Well done keep making videos like this and tell people to do start on a 125 and not jump to 600 stright away. if people have brains and common sense absolutely they can start on a 600 like my self i stil ldecided to go for a 125 and than bought a 300 and i relised i could of started a 600 instead becuase there isint much difference anyway between 300 and 600 bikes just a restriction and i have been riding for 7 years now.

Get some gloves as everyone said but also a motorcycle jacket with some armour in the arms and elbows and kevlar jeans with armour in the knees even some boots. I wear the full gear head to toe on every single ride i go on and i own the same bike as you. I know what it is like to go down and trust me it F hurts even at slow speeds.

Nice video mate, but take some advice and wear gloves at all times otherwise someone will be taking you to loo for the next 6 months.

A year on a 125cc was a year well spent; reminding myself of roadcraft on two wheels. I then went onto a Honda CBF 600. (A great bike for me as I'm a shortie.)

Good on you! I have seen so many people buy a bike the give it up after 6 months or less. Stick with it. It is not only practical and cheap it is fun! As you are finding out. But for cheap practicality a scooter would be far better. The weather protection and storage you do not get with a motorbike. Plus the auto transmission makes it a breeze round town. A tip from an old hand (on and off since 1977). Wear gloves all the time. In a spill your instinct will be to put your hands out, and hands without skin are not much use! And there are plenty of ventilated summer gloves available. And get yourself a proper armoured jacket. They are not cheap but in a spill they will reduce injuries.
