Seki & Shimizu be that childhood friend that said “ we’ll catch up with you guys” to the group and waited for you to finish tying your shoe….

Honestly I feel the bad ending possibility is the canon one. After all, he caused Shimizu delusion of his mother still being alive, caused the delusion to break, and ended up missing Shimizu when their friendship broke off. Considering that Shimizu was on the spaceship, it makes sense that Shimizu did die and Seki is in denial (especially since I don't think they reconciled and I can see Seki wanting a fresh start on his friendship with Shimizu at that point as well).

I always thought seikis story was the saddest (after Aiko of course) until the chapter where it’s revealed shimizus mom was dead the entire time and he was hallucinating her presence :(

I like to think it really does end on the good ending. Maybe we all need that kind of hope sometimes.

I actually believe in a more neutural ending where the old Shimizu "died", meaning that he never gained back his memory and his old self is no where to be present but he is alive as a human being. Meanwhile, Seki in denial that Shimizu changed and has a different personality now still tries to recover their old friendship which current Shimizu is probably okay with but will never see it the same way as Seki would.

Seki and Shimizu was probably the most moving story in Goodnight Punpun right alongside the main one. Idk why but it just really hit me

I was so wrapped up processing chapter 139's trauma I totally missed Shimizu's death

Seki was by far my favourite character in Punpun. His story was so depressing but it genuinely felt real and illicted the most emotion from me. My favourite part of his story was when he explained shimizus mothers death to his coworkers.

I read Punpun for the first time about a decade ago now and I've since read it a few times. It's nice being able to re-experience it like this.

Their whole arc is just “Chef’s kiss” ✨
Thanks for making a video focusing on it! So well done! 😊

Seki is one of my favorite characters in the story

been binging all of your content recently and cant get enough, you've got a clean cut editing stye + scripting along with a really nice perspective you take to your vids. really hope you blow up soon you deserve it!

nice video ! i think the saddest part about their relationship is that either way seki did really care for shimizu in his own way

Your videos on oyasumi punpun have been very relaxing for me to watch, despite how depressing the story is. I read it when i was 13-14, i loved it but i digested it as something for me to feel sadder and hate life (loll). Now in my 20s, your vid analysis makes me feel satisfied? As if I can finally breath out and release the tension from my brain. It’s no longer a just a “depressing story”, but it is a beautifully well-written manga with characters going through life like any adults i could pass by in real life because we are all in pain and trying to do out best. My teen brain could never.
I look forward to your future videos! :)

6:00 never realized how well silent hill ost fits with punpun

I like to believe Shimizu is alive. In essence he had a bright mind to go to upper education and get a good job and by this point Seki wanted to start over but as in the endings for other characters, nothing is perfect. Seki isn’t one to lie for the sake of it and would rather direct the conversation somewhere else or shit it down. I assume he gets his restart with his friend but terribly with a true blank slate. The UFO could be a straight forward death of the Pegasus ensemble but it was implied the ensemble had done things which can be shown with Seki able to see the powers disappear. Now Shimizu without his powers and memory is left a husk with Seki left to clean up and further himself with his friend. He gets the restart but with no friend. In a sense this is dark considering what many consider their partner friend etc is the memories and how they act. When both are gone what are you truly left with? It would go in line to the Pun Pun and story A. Pun Pun doesn’t have a wife and his own children or even got away from it all with Aiko. He’s ready to understand he will eventually forget her and is ok with that. He sees the support he has that of which understand to support Pun Pun but also give him space when need be. He lost an eye and a possible criminal record so his real estate gig could be shat on knowing the way Japanese take looking different (considering his eye) Pun Pun’s end is shown that life keeps going and you decide whether it gets better or not. I see Pun Pun’s end as more happy than sad but nevertheless still there. He lives and has people but he’s gone through shit that impacted his body and social standing as well as mental well-being and these things won’t go away but he chose to keep living because his team is still there. Similar to Seki, he on paper has his friend and works his kid dream job, but in reality, he’s at his wit’s end and tries again to work with his fucked up dad in possible hopeful delusion while also attempting to rebuild his friendship with the memory lost Shimizu who will never be like the boy he originally met. Whereas Pun Pun learned to let go and continue despite the hardships, Seki learns to be hopeful and not let cynicism completely warp his world view. If trying to befriend your memory lost childhood friend and working with your alcoholic dad on a sandwich shop with a genuine smile isn’t hopefulness I can’t see what else. Also Haru shows us in his classroom where a possible new Aiko could begin, he assures her she will be ok something the adults in Pun Pun’s childhood didn’t and guess what? The other teachers near haru may also be like the shit ones of the past but that’s ok. For me, overall Pun Pun shows us people can be given good cards bad cards whatever but you gotta keep playing your hand til your all in. Sorry for the mouthful I’m way to shy to make videos personally so thanks for making this

I think Freezie died. Shimizu lived. no snot, and a serious expression. He's able to start again free from delusions.
I think that makes to most sense to shimizu's development. I also don't see the author ending Seki's arc by making him nuts.

I also wonder if the nurse job is instigated by the old lady with the tv. Seki let's shimizu take care of her and he works hard at the family business.

I'm so glad this channel exists. The way you analyze and decode this brilliant manga is fantastic. A recurrent thing in Oyasumi punpun is the characters wondering what they'd be like as adults. It's so fascinating how we see the actual transition period for these characters and all the horror that accompanied it. Yet despite it all, as long as you live, life continues to change in ways one could never imagine. So despite the sheer depravity in this manga, it truly fills me with a desire to keep living.

Finished the manga recently and your videos make me remember the little details, thanks a lot for the great work. Please tell me you're planning a video about best girl Nanjou Sachi, uncle Yuichi is also one of my favorite characters and I loved your video about him
