I'm saying this as a Buddhist, those fancy meditation centres are almost always sketchy. Watch your steps if you go in to one of those

Damn I feel Sayako. I have scopophobia, and the feeling of punishment or shame from just being gazed at is so real. There isn't any particular insecurity driving it, which is what makes it frustrating to explain. I just wanna cry when I'm stared at by a few too many sets of eyes, and I don't really know why or how to solve it.

9:30 The self-mummification was actually a thing, sort of. How well reality matched the mythology surrounding it is up for debate, but there are stories of it being practiced.

Love the Reanimator's Sword, it reads to me like Highlander filtered through Junji's amazing craftsmanship. Alao just a big fan of any story where someone says 'You wouldn't dare risk this' and the protagonist just goes 'Bet' and just no hesitation does it.

In the monks story, at the end, it looks like the dead monks are at them with an air of curiosity. They don't look mad or have any ill will toward the two. They just got woken up from their slumber by 2 people who are in the labyrinth not wanting it to be their resting place.
Honestly, I sure that they would help them find the exit with their eyes or something........ or maybe it's just the character imagining the mummies looking at her

13:32 Very well known phobia for all fans of ”the Magnus Archives”.

Some of the Junji ito channels don't even have the selection you seem to have access to.  Thank you for everything you do, and keep growing as a narrator as well as a public figure!

Reanimator… it reminds me of shonen jump kinda but also some of the movies of the 80’s. Hmm I could be misreading but it made me think of the way people use shrines for different rituals than intended. Have you heard of the ritual of removing your shoes and running between the two places a specific number of times but if you are seen then whatever it is that you’re praying for won’t come true. Then there’s the nail a doll to a tree with curses and if you are seen then the curse goes back to the person doing it. I thought of that when I heard this story.

A worthy goal to read all of JI's manga!Good luck!

Cult from this story wanted The whole human Kind to ,,save'' - so use their fears and doubts and then turn them into mummies. Very evil and scary -pure manipulation

05:24 those final series of panels are literally straight out of shonen jump lmao

This EVIL cult was so creepy.

SPOILERS

I don't know if you mentioned it in the Reanimator Sword section, but Keiji didn't survive the fall from the cliff. He was reanimated too, so honestly it kinda confuses me why he didn't die at the end too. Maybe it is the sword keeping him alive?

Unedurable Labyrith is BRILLIANT! Not only because of Perfect way of showing phobia. Its perfect classic horror story about EVIL cult in the isolated place. And Junji Ito gives his own twist on it with Buddhism ,creepy statues ,rituals and manipulation ! Perfect suspence!

At 4:11 “surprisingly”? I think any normal person would dismiss a crazy thing said by what appears to be a crazy person.

I actually hadn't read the first story before, no idea how I'd missed it! Definitely a bit of a tangent away from his usual work, but interesting to see.

Ito is a master of that big reveal panel spread, and this one with the monks all staring down is SUCH an evocative one!

Boy you didn't find a necromancer scary? What have you seen in your life ...

WAs the part where monk says leave them to live the life of secular illusion skipped on purpose?

great story, but I'm definitely weird becuase I feel weirded out when people refer to authors and directors like they're real life axquaintances. referring to them by their first name instead of saying "the author" or something... well, idk  maybe the guy does know him in real life
