Best vid on this topic I've seen thus far. 🤙👏👏

The fact he seems to barely know Nikki, not even knowing she doesn't get on with her dad, and that it took him until someone died to go back to the shop and get more wishes are things I keep thinking about

He was always a bad guy, it doesn’t matter if he knew the wish was real or not, he did want the wish to be real, he did want her to love him whether she wanted to or not

All a “nice guy” needs is the means and the opportunity.😒😒😒

From the very first scene Bear had red flags: the way he and Ian just dismiss the waitress's advice and, when Ian is outright rudely passive aggressive to her, Bear does not call him out on it because he is too focused on how dumb he thought he looked (aka how the situation made him feel). Sure he does a half-baked apology to the waitress, but it clearly was only an apology for how he asked her to sit through that because he thought he looked foolish, never acknowledging how they were rude to her. Even his practice "confession" is full of saccharine platitudes with nothing about Nikki's personality except that she was nice to him. Bear constantly centers himself and, while we see the ultimate version of that in the "what's so bad about being with me" scene, he was like that from the very start, just suppressed by his cowardice. That, to me, is one of the most brilliant things about the movie. We don't, by my estimation, see Bear devolve as a person over time. What we see instead, imo, is him revealing who he's always been in the same way politicians do when they go back on their promises after gaining power.

2 cents incoming: Bear had red flags from the start from my wife's POV. Literally the very first monologue she called him out somehow. She explains it like this, he never cared about Nikki the person, he wanted Nikki the trophy. This made her even more mad when THE BRICK came into play (trying to not spoil things, but those that know know), because now all of a sudden he's doing that??? his love was never actually REAL. Her theory is that scene is ANOTHER reason the spell overall didnt work (theres a layering of why the spell didnt work in her opinion) A comment mentioned Bear didnt even know Nikki didn't get on with her father! After 7 years? Come on. The video brings up if Bear would've changed his wish if he had know, I don't really think he would've in the way people are thinking. It would still be him taking away her right to choose, worded better or not and since his feelings are totally surface and corrupted, there's no wish that would work technically. He would still wish to POSSESS her. Not love her, but have HER love HIM. I'm glad this movie was made so well, a movie that makes us talk about these things enthusiastically is super dope. Good job on this content as well.

The part that sticks out to me is the part after Sarah is killed and she comes to his side of the car and says “this is all your fault” it doesn’t really get clearer than that

It crazy messed up that he seriously was okay that this girl was trapped in his own body like tf 🤯

What I have found most interesting is that most women who watch this move clock Bear from jump street.  That speech at the diner at the beginning already hinted at his potebtial "nice guy"  persona.  Most men don't start seeing him as a villain until much later in the movie.   I would love to see someone do a video on that.

One of the first ways we see Bear dodge accountability is by putting the blame on the cat for getting into the meds that he left out.

(I also feel like Nikki is possessed by Bear's own literal obsession. At the start of the change, she says her cat just died when it was HIS cat, implying that some part of his psyche has found its way into Nikki.)

Being fed a 2-week dead unrefrigerated cat without him smelling the death in his mouth is either a culinary earth-shattering miracle and a spectacular display of how to use spices and aromatics/deodorizing ingredients to a level that can bring heaven on earth…

or Bear’s own nightmare in its worst form biting his ass long and hard exactly as bear deserves

Is it only me, but I got the sense Bear was willing to jump ship with Wish Niki because she was “too much.” When he calls the hotline, he asks to alter the wish. The guy says he has to be there for her, almost like he was anticipating Bear packing his bags and fleeing in the night. Honestly, that would be a cowards way out - fleeing from a situation he created - but it’s in line with his character. I genuinely think that if the final act hadn’t gone down that way and he couldn’t find ANOTHER wish willow, he would’ve just abandoned her. She was becoming too much for him, and I felt that from the party scene when she gave her poem and he sank down into his chair. I truly believe that he was going to die, as he did, and leave her to deal with the mess. OR leave somehow and leave her to deal with the mess and curse, which probably would’ve resulted in her death. He never loved Niki. He loved the idea of her, and since the idea isn’t panning out so good… well, it’s time to jump ship.

This has always been my take... he began a s sad pathetic lo*ser but evolved into a monster

He's definitely the villian. He never cared about Niki. She asked him to kill her and he didn't. Even the last scene he wimps out of killing himself. All he had to do was just say hey will you go on a date and face the rejection.

Most people don’t understand ACTUAL Love. When you TRULY love someone, you want to see them HAPPY even if it’s NOT with YOU. And most people don’t feel that way about the person they THINK they “Love”. What they really “Love” is the way that person makes THEM feel.

Bear didn’t LOVE Nikki. If he DID he would’ve tried to FREE her once he realized what was going on and how horrible it was for HER.

Bear only “Loved” the way she made HIM feel. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Honestly the only people who felt like it was ambiguous were men & women who wanted to give some benefit of the doubt but anyone who watched her interact with Bear could tell that she wasn’t into him & thought of him as a friend. A lot of their conversations were things that could be said to female friends as well. She literally said “Ew” about him multiple times.

I'm gonna use one of their favorite talking points.
"If the roles were reversed." You'd have a bunch of men going "SEE?! SEE?!?"

You're 100 percent correct. At his core, that's exactly who Bear was. Id argue it's revealed in the beginning of the film when Nikki out right asks him if he likes her. A man can take rejection and keep going. It may hurt, but they keep going. A coward would make that exact wish that exact same way.

I also just wanna say, I love this video, so So So so so So Sooo much I...Idk if I could live without it...

His cat died because he is irresponsible with meds and doesn't think about anyone's needs but his own. He was always the villain.

It's not a demon, as stated by Curry Barker. With that confirmed, then by definition, Nikki is possessed by a tulpa. It is an npc born from concentration, or in this case, a wish. For more information on tulpas, watch The Empty Man or Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

Ngl, the idea of wishing for love to me has always seemed off. I've always told myself that the one thing I would never wish for is for someone to love me because I'd know that the feelings weren't real and that alone would haunt me. Thankfully I'm in a happy relationship with someone who actually grew feelings for me at the same time that I did with her. If I had the chance, I'd probably wish for something similar to Ian though, can't get a house in this economy lol
