King Edward III of England famously banned football in 1349 by royal decree because he was concerned it distracted men from practicing archery, which was vital for military defense during the Hundred Years' War.

Well, someone with more front than Brighton pushed in front of the bus queue today and it's gone black over Bill's mother's, but seeing Lindsay's reaction to "Fur coat and no knickers" really brightened my day.

If you visit the Tower of London when you come over here, you can see the ravens.

Honestly, watching you two slowly build up a collection of completely random British phrases might be my favourite part of this channel 😂 “Black over Bill’s mother’s” absolutely finished me because that’s the kind of saying even loads of Brits would stare at you for using. You both make these reactions feel like you’re genuinely discovering stuff rather than just performing for the camera. I’m learning alot from you for my own channel so thanks! Please tell me Ted Lasso is actually happening now… who’s getting obsessed first?

I met the raven keeper and some of the ravens at the Tower of London. They like to cause mischief. One of them walks into a group of people and just speaks and walks of to confuse people, another likes to steal ribbons

The Ravens at the Tower of London, have a dedicated Beefeater, known as The Raven Master. He looks after their welfare and gives talks about them. All the Ravens have names and a traceable lineage. I have a booklet about them that I bought in the gift shop.

I think you will really enjoy Ted Lasso. It is based in Richmond, a far suburb of London. I grew up saying "black over Bills" - But then I am from Warwickshire! Bill is William Shakespeare - it means the clouds are rolling in over Stratford.

18:27 we do have some funny names for towns/villages lol, I know in Sussex there’s upper and lower dicker 😁, actually passed through one of them earlier in the year on our way to a popular attraction Drussilas

When you talk about towns, the Front means the Sea-Front. The promenade or broadwalk along the beach. Behind are often fine hotels or posh houses.

Several monarchs over the centuries have tried to ban football, not that they needed a reason.

There isn't a place called 'Uppercocker' but there is one called Cockermouth near me in Cumbria!!!!!

I can't believe she didn't know the "it's black over bill's mother's" it's such an old British saying. I assumed we all knew it.

The ravens at the Tower of London have their flight-wings clipped so they can't leave, although this is not the primary reason to clip them. It's to stop them flying into Londons traffic.

@ethelmini 13 hours ago

There's a tunnel from Downing Street to Parliament. I'm sure it will be "more front (singular) than Brighton" too

I think we had to practice Archery on Sundays, it's all about Englands red and white army either way. 😊

I live near Richmond in London where Ted Lasso is filmed. We get hordes of American fans of the show in our corner of the capital. Most fall in love with it. They love the huge park, and can’t believe we have wild deer in London. ❤ There is a famous 40 second YouTube clip that has 30 million views. It’s called ‘Jesus Christ In Richmond Park’. It’s probably the most British thing you’ll ever see. 😂

The temporary football bans happened dozens of times over hundreds of years in both England and Scotland. It was to make sure that archers got enough practise to fight wars, and didn't get silly injuries playing the rough football games of those early years, and it caused too much noise and disruption with some ending up turning into street brawls.
In 1314 King Edward II of England banned football as it took people away from military service, made too much noise, and caused to many minor injuries
in 1457, the Scottish Parliament officially banned football

Wetwang is about 25 miles west of Hull. The weather presenter on the Humberside/Hull news programme (look North) on the BBC is the honorary mayor of the village.
