Baseball Replay Journal

Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball (ソフトボール天国 in Japan) is one of the most amazing baseball games on the NES. Sure, it might technically be a "softball" game, but it plays just like the other baseball games. And it's really hard to put down. Let's take a deeper look!

Me and 3 friends used to draft and play full seasons with this game. We even kept score in a baseball score book and had leaders pages. 😂😂 Fun, simpler times.

I still play this game to this day. You absolutely can catch fly balls while flying. You have to line up your shadow to the balls shadow.

Seems like this game was well ahead of it's time. Makes me think of an ancient take on something like Mario Super Sluggers or Backyard Baseball with the picking your team members individually and each player had different strengths and weaknesses. Those games also had the concept of having to put the right player in the right position, or you could suffer. They also both had the notion of being able to swap any player into Pitcher at any time to make a pitching change.

My family rented his game so often from our local mom and pop rental store that the owner just gave us the game for free one day shortly before going out of business.
This was a game I even got my sister to play with me, it was that good!

This is my second favorite baseball game game for the NES. Cyberstadium Base Wars is #1.

We rented this regularly. It's was a lot of fun. The people with crazy bats were my favorite.

Missed out on this as a kid because we kinda were snobs. "Who is Dusty Diamond? The guy on Saved by the Bell?" So I never played it back then.

Hands down, the best baseball game on the NES! It’s super addictive! It’s one of those games I wish I would’ve got as kid!

I genuinely mean this as a compliment, this type of content shouldn't be as interesting as you make it. I'm genuinely engaged in each video.

4:43 "If you hit a home run that breaks a window, you're called out". That is a random, but amazing mechanic.

I remember playing this game. My friend had it. I loved how you could select different parks. It was kind of unique. Back in those days, we just wanted to hit HRs in all the different parks.

Absolutely love this game. Baseball Stars is still my personal favorite & Dusty Diamond/Baseball Simulator 1000 would be my 2/3rd favorites

This was my favorite NES ball game, with Bases Loaded a close second. An all time classic, I remember figuring out who all the best players were for power, speed, defense... good times and great memories!

You did such a terrific job with the footage just as you were explaining the gameplay, and they were such a great examples of why this game was such a unique experience
