Welcome to Urban Expeditions with a Special Episode of Wonderful Old Glasgow Photos

This time with Streets, Dates, Descriptions, and an Overarching Theme - The Old Backcourts of Glasgow.

Something that I can personally share with the older generations that I highlight in my work, and the mature audiences who watch my Videos, I too grew up playing Doon the Back's. Which I loved...

Here we have an insightful selection of incredible archive photographs from many different times in Glasgow's history.

Featuring rare sights, from lost architecture to the poor barefooted children who were here before you or I.

Many of different Backcourts - Backlands as they were once called. From Anderston to Calton, The Gorbals to Maryhill. This is an important documentation of the past and its people. Heartwarming, sad, raw and real. I am incredibly moved by these images and I hope that you appreciate this Video.

Let's take a trip Doon the back's...

Thank you, for bringing back some long forgotten memories of a poor Irish family living in the Gorbals in the 1050s till 1969, if we were adults we would have hated it, but as children?? What an adventure, hard times and sad times is the norm but we were together and no boundaries then, every one looked out for the weans and made sure they were safe🤠.

A wonderful collection of old photographs. Enough time to study each one with helpful notation. A first class piece of work.

You'll be making a lot of older people in their 60s - 90s who grew up around these streets very nostalgic and teary eyed.

Wow. What powerful and thought provoking imagery. It's odd to think that the people captured in these images would never have thought that in decades to come we would be looking at them on the Internet. And what is equally true is we can't really imagine what it would be like to have lived back then.

We used to do 'the jumps' through a line of back courts and had some great times: and a lot of bruises.

Absolutely fabulous. I am able to show my children and grandchildren what Glasgow looked like for their great-grandparents

Today's kids have adventure parks all provided for them. In the 40s and 50s we had backcourts, cobbled streets and closes and the imagination to create our own funfair of games. A much fulfilling childhood than thumb and finger exercises on an electronic device of your own choosing.
