The 1907 Winchester, I bought one cheap, all blown out, due to a shot recoil buffer. Hideous monster (but cheap!) when I got it. That sound is me patting myself on the back. Made a new buffer from a length of Delrin rod I bought on Amazon. I more than doubled my money. Rare for me.

Anything you put up Bill, I watch. Always interested in learning new techniques to repair firearms. They say you can't teach and old dog new tricks, well as long as the old dog is willing to learn, he will. Ted

Great work Bill, I found the part number for that spreader I was telling you about. It's MAC TOOLS BP7034 Disc Brake Pad Spreader. Good stuff.

If I get a fore end crack, I'll glue, then lay a thin layer of fiberglass in the channel if the bottom wood is thin.

I've used JB Weld to repair cracked stocks and never had them crack again. The most important thing is to make sure it's clamped tight and the epoxy has fully cured.

most times I heat the wood with a hair dryer and also heat the epoxy it will thin out without solvents by heating & you can heat it again even as it begins to stiffen up it will thin out again

Personally, if I was worried about it splittting again, I would get it glass bedded with acroglass. That is tough stuff, and it would prevent any movement from the action, which is probably the cause of the cracks.

Can you give me some advice for repairing a crack in the butt stock of a Browning Auto 5. It cracked lengthwise, vertically just off center through the cut out for the tang and into the mortise for the trigger assembly. Sorry I can’t get a picture. It’s packed away because I’ll be moving soon.
I tried fixing it by injecting super glue into the crack, but it opened up again shortly after. It’s possible that the wood has some oil in it. This is my favourite waterfowl gun and it has been wet several times. I used to wipe it down with gun oil after cleaning it. I read that these gunstocks were made with wood that was salt dried and that cracking tends to be a problem. I bought it new in the 80’s.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
