The US-China summit is a good sign. I'm a US citizen living in Vietnam, so I follow this relationship closely. Of course, the 2 countries have often adverse interests but I think the general rule is that "no news is good news". The summit is a recognition that they realize dialogue is important. But there's a peaceful statis on most issues (Taiwan for example) and if there are no changes, there's "no news". Not a bad thing.

China started its modern industrialization around 1980 by sharply reducing military spending. It started thinking about how to increase it after the US war against Saddam Hussein. It really started it after Bill Clinton sent two Carrier Battle Groups through Taiwan Strait in 1996.

At this point I do not even care who is right and who is wrong. There's no way young people will fight for a country, where you can't even buy a apartment or build a house. What would this kids fight for? Millions of bureaucrats and their pensions? Corrupt politicians?

Our western capitalist countries will certainly not reindustrialise because since they experienced financial capitalism, which brings much more profits then the industrial version of capitalism, smaller profits are not acceptable for our capitalists and the banking sector.
