I love it when you go into a shop and someone doesn’t say ‘please,’ and the little old lady will say. ‘What do you say?’ And the biggest, toughest bloke will shrink a little, and meekly say . ‘Please.’

Wearing baseball caps or hats in doors is a big no no.

Regarding giving guests a tour of your house, I think most of us would see it as showing off a bit, and that's something we Brits think is in very poor taste. (It also means you've got to rush around and get your home pristine, on top of whatever else you're doing to entertain your guests!)

I'm in London, England and have a 'business' friend/colleague who I have worked with for just over 40 years... AND I have NEVER been into their house! I have collected them from or dropped them off at their house - But not once have I EVER asked to go inside OR ever been invited inside... And I have never questioned their privacy!? Equally, they have never been in my house or ever asked... We just know that we are BOTH comfortable with the arrangement.

6:00 - There is a phrase here, passed down through generations: “An Englishman’s home is his castle”. This means that a person’s home is a private sanctuary where they have the right to control what happens and to exclude others.
23:00 - not to be morbid (or may be I am..haha) but also...they won't necessarily be able to identify you in an accident if you're not where you're supposed to be.  Not that that helps you much anyway but it might help family etc.

Our houses/homes are personal places, people don't expect to be shown around a house, if you do, expect them to never return! The "Look what I've got and you haven't" is not only embarrassing for both parties but degrading a guest only to brag expect to be a loner!

There's a whole language to how you place your cutlery on your plate in polite society, but most people only do the "I'm finished" one.

In America you are definitely rushed through your meal! They expect a certain amount of covers per table! They want you gone as quickly as possible so they can get as much money from that table.

I agree about leaving a Tip, I'll leave them this tip - 'Don't employ them if you aren't going to pay them fairly'

Financial tips should be for going above and beyond, for delivering a 'better than expected' experience to show your gratitude, not to make up their salary because their boss would rather pocket the profits than pay their Staff. If you can't pay your staff, don't go into business, don't employ them and don't expect your customers to make up for your  greed and obnoxious treatment of those you employ!!! That pushes the staff to behave in a very pushy and of course extremely false way to get their money and kick them out as quick as possible to get the next punter in, prostituting themselves in a way...

There is an old saying "An Englishmans house is his castle".  Castles had a portcullis for a reason. Also population density, uk is about 740 people per square  mile while USA runs at about 86 so our home becomes a refuge from a dense wall of humanity, a place you can breathe

Sweden here. Think being loud is rude in a lot of countries.

Chips are not fries, it's just the nearest example Americans have. We have fries here and they ming in comparison to chips. You need a proper chippy over there. You'd soon see the difference and a chip butty is awesome

Yes I agree re restaurants with freinds, u book a table for 8 people at 7.30pm, u are all still there at 10.30 pm, BY CHOICE ! its an evening out, table is yours til closing time (some have say 7pm until 9pm sittings and 9pm until 11pm - but you know in advance!) u order more drinks and leave when u want not when u are thrown out after half an hour !.... when I was in the states they gave me my bill when giving me my food, I DELIBERATLY ordered 4 more drinks so they had to redo the bill again and again ...

Giving someone a tour of your house is usually the precursor to tying them to the bed.

My home is no-one's business but my own.
Someone comes for dinner - kitchen, dining room, loo, lounge, maybe the garden depending on time of year and any shared interest. That is it.

It is getting more and more common in the U.K. and France for waiters to ask whether your meal is ok,but only once.Personally I hate it ´ especially when you know it is routine and not sincere.

We used to and still in small cafes get the bill as soon as ordered. But we can add more drink or food later. Its not a final bill

The thing with the plane, you need to ask, they seat people to balance the plane, you can't have everyone sitting in one side, likewise you can't have everyone sitting in the nearest seats to the front of the plane. I would image that they will allocate seating from the middle outwards.

Another rude thing, well... annoying maybe, is the way you use your cutlery, we use both hands, not switching back and fourth, knife in the dominant hand and fork in the other.  Every American I know that's came here has adopted it because it's just so much easier.

Re showing guests around the house, we do do that but only really if it’s a house warming party or you’ve had something renovated like the kitchen or a conservatory. But the reason it’s not a thing in the UK is because homes are smaller than the US.
