The lack of guard rails is due to Charles Darwin being British, we're great believers in natural selection 😁

When my daughter had her birthday party we would sing happy birthday she would blow out the candles and then we would cut the cake and give a piece  to everyone  to eat at the party , at the end of the party we usually have cake left over and we give everyone a piece of cake to take home with them and  a goodie  bag  , I called it

We call the party bag the "bugger off bag"

I think the greatest strength the British have is we know we can win, we can lose, we can draw at the things we do
We often fail, but we fail trying to do the right thing

The main reason American parents are so super-protective of their kids is that medical treatment is so expensive!
In Britain, it is free so if your kid has a fall and really gets hurt, you call an ambulance without a second thought. Knowing you will not be charged.

Of course we don't go to the 'tourist' stuff, we've probably done all that already and want a change.

Always have the cake, jelly etc,but have lots of games for the kids to play in the garden or yard and let them run around.
Try not to open presents in front of anyone unless they ask you to. If a present is met with less than joy, people can feel insulted, so feed them cake and release them into mayhem in the garden

The cake is there, they sing happy Birthday and blow the candles out. The cake then gets cut and put into the party bags

You want to eat the Birthday cake there and then.
Now that is a typical American comment.

They sing happy birthday and blow out the candles then the cake is cut up and added to the party bag that all the kids love with.

On risk, we have a couple of principles first is risk assessment and risk minimisation, which breaks down how bad the outcome can realistically be and how likely that outcome is the the way to minimise it, and the other is positive risk taking, does the positives from doing an activity outweigh the possible risks involved?

Play areas have rubber mats beneath the play areas now so kids don't hurt themselves. Unlike when we were kids it was hard mud or concrete but we just got up and carried on

No guard rails, high climbing frames help teach children risk management rather than teaching them how to sue each other over the slightest thing.

There's no lights on a 13th century castle

It's not raining, it's just liquid sunshine!

Lights, in a 16th century building in the countryside? 😂

Appears you want to live in a rubber world.

what if they break something... then you goto hospital (without a bill after) and learn to not make that mistake again ... i broke my arm as a teenager i think we all broken something its part of growing up

It is often sunny in England BTW
