I was a developer on Madden 06.  Regarding the developer not knowing the stats, that's a possibility but it's probably more that he's forgotten how they work.  Some developers may not know every system of the game, but back then people were more generalists.  When i worked on Game Boy Advance people were just programmers, not graphics programmer, sound programmer, gameplay programmer etc.  So I doubt the team didn't know how it worked at the time of development.  "RNG" wasn't in common use amongst programmers or developers, so that acronym may have not translated at all to what Japanese developers were calling their rand calls back then.  I hadn't heard RNG until I saw people talking about it in speed running, despite having extensive development experience with it.  Second unused stats can happen when development changes or testing finds issues.  For Madden 06 on Xbox 360, since it was a brand new engine many of the subsystems that used various stats on Madden 05/06 Xbox/PS2 didn't apply to the new engine.  So nearly half of the character's stats were meaningless.  OVR and Team Stats never had a purpose and was for aesthetics, and I think JMP and a few others flat out went to blank functions that we tore out.  Having the same bug game to game doesn't necessarily mean the sequel is just a roster expansion, as sometimes the same coding style or logic is used so the same exploits are possible.  Since we tore out the entire engine, we happened to have a few of the same exploits as the previous game's engine just because the way it was developed didn't factor in the same edge conditions.  Finally, those last two stats may be AI specific and not apply to players.  Often the AI has to cheat or be subject to different rules otherwise it appears unrealistic.  This will be the rubber banding or what I've heard colloquially by some devs as "Sid Meier Random" in which prior outcomes affect previous affects so the player doesn't feel cheated by multiple similar outcomes in a row.  Hope this helped!

If I recall, Mike Scott from Houston had his ball drop 100% of the time, when he made a slow pitch.

Hi from the Dee-Nee forums!

You are correct that the "unknown" fields were named because no one knew what they did, but that mystery was eventually solved (buried in a forum thread) - it determines how much a computer-controlled pitcher curves a pitch to the right or left.

RIP Donnie Moore.

I played this game at my neighbor's house while growing up and I liked it but never loved it. The weird thing is to this day I find myself humming the opening tune when you first power it on just randomly and I have no idea why. It's just living in my head still.

i love your RBI videos. thank you for doing these.

Cool video. I love playing RBI, one of my favorite NES games of all. I always really enjoyed it when the H in "HOMERUN" would line up perfectly with the stadium light sprites.

I played rbi a bit, but the 1st Baseball Stars took up a year or two if my childhood.

Nightwulf's RBI Baseball Editor was great. Worked for a decade plus. Was so easy to do. It's a shame it stopped working.

RBI Baseball was one of my favorite games growing up

I really enjoy your channel. Informative and I get a nice hit of nostalgia 👌

Cool video! I didn't even know there was much of an interest in editing this game in the US. The roster updates for games like NBA Jam or Tecmo Super Bowl have certainly gotten a lot more attention, so it's good to see this one getting at list a taste of love.

The US being the key word. As you might know already, this series was absurdly popular in Japan as Family Stadium/Famista. The basically unprecedented success of the first one spawned a ton of imitators and is why Namco hesitates to do even minor adjustments on the series.

Their output has really slowed in recent years. The more recent ones seem to still stick to the core gameplay but with some new modes like a boardgame-like season mode and a simple RPG with minigames added in. There's also "leveling up" of player cards (the season mode is heavily collection based), a new hit trajectory stat, and special abilities like signature pitches and stat modifiers. My copy was from 2018 so there were some current/recent major leaguers like Seiya Suzuki and Nori Aoki.

Anyway, nostalgia for the original Famicom games and a sporadic release schedule for new releases (the most recent one was from 2020) means that there's a lot of modding patches, tools, and resources out there. I honestly can't say I've taken a deep dive into it, but it seems searches like ファミスタ ファミコン "ツール" or  "ハック" (Famista Famicom "Tool" or "Hack) will turn up some relevant results. Sadly, even in my brief look, I came across some dead links and old Windows utilities already!

Hey you found the RBI page! 😂. That was the one I was telling you about. That's the one that can lead you to those better versions of the arcade game. I never knew about holding down the direction buttons.

Another tip: Place the bat parallel with the top of plate about half way back from the top of the plate, as if to bunt. Then, when the ball makes contact, hit the swing button. Often times the game will glitch and hit MASSIVE homeruns. :)

I love the nostalgic music and fireworks. I enjoy running back to the bases if you go to far. I love how you have so much control of your players. I also really that it has a season mode.✨️👏

I love your tangential baseball video games videos, your regular dice baseball card game videos are good too! Good trick to know I would figure holding up would be hitting flies, now I know!

Loved this game !

I play a couple games of RBI Baseball and Super Batter Up every week.

My favorite game ever..probably already commented.

Hope you will look at the japanese versions for the PC-Engine console. They are known as “Pro Yakyuu World Stadium”
