That line cracks me up, “ I achieved financial success by doing what most people won’t, I woke up every day, and regardless of how I felt, i still worked.” Which is what every person who lived under capitalism is literally forced to do , and does do, literally EVERY day.

having lost my wife to cancer (at age 28) in January, if I woke up and told myself "it's gonna be a great day" every day since then, I'd probably feel worse to be honest. this kind of bullshit Mel is spouting makes me so angry.

I was exploring self help after my moms death. The 5 second rule was it for me. I realized the genre was bullshit and admitted I was depressed. Self help will help you clean a closet, not treat depression.

I grew up in an Amway house. I can attest that self-help books, Christian nationalism, and pyramid schemes go hand in hand in hand. These things hold people hostage in very insulating ways.

My Dad has a phd in psychology and went to college for like 8 years. He reads constantly and is always up to date on new mental health info. To hear Mel Robbins say she doesn’t have a degree and learned the hard way pisses me off to no end. No Mel my Dad learned the hard way, you are a successful businesswoman who found a good way to market your advice. My Dad actually knows how to help people.

Its no coincidence that people like Robbins never talk about politics and structural injustice. If she was, her business model would fall apart within seconds.
