Scott Pilgrim Vs The 2 Hour Time Constraint.

I can forgive most of the the movie's flaws because of live action Wallace.

The one thing that's always consistent is that the twins always get shafted.

“Holy shit it’s Luigi-“

“Hey-a Scott, I appreciate that you owned up to your mistakes regarding Knives.”

Michael Cera not feeling like Comic Scott in the films is definitely a fault of the direction and not Cera himself because you can tell Cera feels way more like comic Scott in both the anime and the animated prequel tie-in short to the film where he acts more confident and extroverted. So the films thought Scott's character needed to be changed in order to fit Cera better even though Cera has shown that he is perfectly capable of portraying Scott's personality in the comics.

scott pilgrim was the first thing my now wife showed me on our first date

I think the main issue with the comic vs the movie is that one doesnt have as much breathing room as the other, you can only do so much with 1 hour and 30 minutes than you can with an 8 episode mini series like the anime did.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT RAMONA, OH MY GOD

It’s so obvious that people that say she’s a bad character or a “manic pixie dream girl” while using pictures of her from the books or TV show have never actually bothered reading the books.

Bad adaptation, good film. Just like the Kick-Ass Movie.

Hey don't be mean, Young Neil worked hard on that script in his sleep.

Finally someone else brings up how Watchmen manages to play the same story in theory but hollows out the themes and visuals through actions!

As someone who has watched the movie and read the comics like 5 times each, I´ve went something similar as what you described, at first I adored the movie, but by the time I had read the comic (and specially by my 3rd reading) my love for the film started to decline, and with time I learned to love the movie in a completely different light as a cinematic achievement instead of an adaptation of SP.
With that said I shall never forgive Edgar Wright for fumbling Kim that badly.

Lisa Miller mention your sins are forgiven

The uncontrollable urge to not say"SHE 17 SCOTT"is getting to me

I feel like this movie is a perfect example of something that is simultaneously very flawed and great. I haven’t read the comics, but I have no trouble believing all the things you’re highlighting as its failings adaptation-wise, and I can definitely see its shallower aspects…

But also… it’s so creative and beautiful and fun to watch and quotable and it looks like everyone involved was having a blast.

So I’m glad it exists as it does, even though I wish comic fans could have had the adaptation they deserve.

“Oh my it’s that human from just stop.”

“You’re a bad adaptation Scott.”

“Holly sh*t ag— wait what?!?l”

To be honest despite Takes Off not being a direct adaptation, a lot of these issues bleed into that show and lead to it not being enjoyable to me. The characters are all arguably even worse than they’re characterized here and it does such damage to any investment I could have in this new story, since these just aren’t the same characters

It just hit me..Morty's character is just Scott Pilgrim without the scifi element.l

I like the franchise. I think it's pretty good. It has a pretty good comic, a pretty good movie, a pretty good anime, a pretty good video game, and a mid-sequel to the video game overall the quality is pretty good

I remember watching the movie with my parents around when it came out on DVD, and liking it because "cool video game movie", and I stand by that. When I finally read the comics a year or 2 later, I was shocked at how it made me feel, it was the first time I ever thought "oh dang, the movie was not representative of this at all" for a piece of media, and I think this will get me to reread it. And maybe finally see the weird sequel show, I still don't know what that's about.
