That tree at 9:51 isn't there any more, it was cut down by a couple of bellends in 2023. They added it back in digitally in the film which i think adds more beauty to the shot if anything. It's something that survived in the apocalypses of the story but was mindlessly destroyed in real life

I have never heard anyone pronounce "Saville" like that. I didn't even comprehend that it could be pronounced by that 😂

It's kinda funny that Erik tells Spike he's a Viking, because the island Spike was raised on is a real place called Lindisfarne (the causeway is also real, but it's paved with tarmac in real life)
The raid of the monastery on Lindisfarne is commonly considered the beginning of the Viking invasion of England, and the Viking Age in general.

And yeah, because it's a real place, you could totally live there

This movie made me fucking sob in the theater. I lost my mum to cancer 5 years ago so the reveal of what was wrong with Isla and everything that followed really affected me. Thankfully I was with a few friends who comforted me

Ralph Fiennes is such an amazing actor. His physical acting, his expressions, his voice. I love that he gets the chance to play these weird, eccentric madmen because it feels like he's enjoying the experience.

So, 1.5 missing wins:
The fantastic detail in the Jimmies being dressed like that Jimmy is that, in the 28-Verse, British culture froze in 2002, meaning that its likely that nobody ever found out about Savill's crimes. This detail means that he is probably a simble of reassurance from the "old world" for people in this universe. But to the audience, it is a very big red flag, which I love.
The second is comically nerdy. The train is painted in an late 90's early '00s livery. This was the initial period of British Rail privatisation, meaning that the crew went to the effort of painting (or CGI-ing) a livery that was only kicking around for a couple of years to maintain continuity of the outbreak in 2002. They could have left it generic, or gone for a later British Rail livery (which was still found someplaces in 2002) but they went for the era-specific one.

Also, as someone living in this area, I do love rare North-East England representation in film, I just wish there were more positive ones. It's pretty much this, Get Carter and Purely Belter.

Week 51 of asking for The Iron Giant

One thing I love so much about as someone from the north east of England is the representation of the area. Hadrians wall, angel of the north, holy island, etc. In English media it’s so often overlooked and the absolute joy of seeing shots from where I’ve lived and even grown up was euphoric when I saw this in cinema

Saville like the suit, not Seville like the Spanish town

Walking into this, I did not expect a movie like this would get me teary-eyed by the end.

Memento Mori.

Fun (Sad) fact: The tree in the middle of the two hills that appears at 9:51 was a famous tree, known as the Sycamore Gap Tree, that was unfortunately illegally cut down by 2 dickheads. They got 4 years for it though, so at least they were punished.

I am often annoyed with the fact that people never make Zombie Movies in the outbreak or near the beginning of the apocalypse, only saving it for Flashbacks or just other stuff like that.

The reason I love this film and The Bone Temple though is because we already got the first parts, we got the Outbreaks in 28 Days and Weeks.

To go 28 YEARS ahead is a massive leap, but I think it works so so well, because of course it'll take a helluva long while for the infection to evolve over the course of that time since the massive outbreak.

Not to mention I absolutely love the expectation subversions in both films so far. They take tropes in Zombie Media that everyone knows and can call out, and both make them apparent and also seemingly build off of them.

Take the doctor for example. Normally he'd be genuinely insane and crazy with Spike never getting answers. Sure he's still a bit odd but that's his quirk for not having anyone to talk to for so long.

In the film, instead, he's a man that is still sane, still alive, and has lived through so much, and CHOSEN to live, because he is smart enough to remember the dead, and when encountered he isn't worried about his own safety, he's just kind and understanding, and willing to help with anything.

I'll elaborate on the second movie if a "Everything Great About" comes out for it but it does the exact same thing and I love it.

I don't normally enjoy future post-apocalypse films set really far in the future (as every film does that), but in this case? 1000/10 rating, amazing films and I'm excited as hell for the third one.

Jenny mentions that Spike is too young for his coming-of-age but then you learn that Isla is dying so Jaime is trying to force Spike to grow up so he'll be ready for Isla's passing. Jamie fails (he prepares Spike physically but not mentally) but Kelson leads with compassion and Spike is able to grow mentally enough to survive in a world without his mother. Also, I assumed the infected woman was going to spit blood on her kid to infect it because otherwise the other members of her group would rip the baby to shreds (Kelson mentions the infected attacking children in Bone Temple).

I was shocked on how good this movie was and Ralph Fiennes did a great job as usual.

I took myself to see this when I was PMSing and ended up fully weeping next to two strangers while apologising

I loved this movie. Cried my eyes out when his mom died.

Still waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean Deadmans chest and At World End

Wow last time I was this early, i was watching 28 Days Later

I'm so glad Young Fathers got plenty of praise in this video. When I first watched the movie, I didn't have much to say about the score, but listening to again made me realize how good it really is.

Fun little fact! the ruins they sleep in at 9:55 is actually ON the island that they originally left from in real life! its called holy island and is a gorgeous lil spot
