Petter mentioned about the SAS pilots were also farmers, make me thinking of Captain Kornprom Saengaram. He was a Thai International Airways B777 captain, while also a medical doctor, a heart surgeon, in fact. He left TG during the restructuring years ago and recently started flying for a private-run air ambulance service. I wish Petter and Ben could contact and somehow convince him to the podcast for an interview. It would be super interesting.

You talk about the price of aviation stuff. Many years ago, somebody stole one of the gas caps from our club's Piper Warrior (PA28-161). This gas cap looked exactly like the gas cap off my mother's 1940s vintage Ford tractor. But rather than being $10 like a gas cap at Pep Boys, it was $95 because of that TSO number on it. And the panel mount GPS we installed on that Warrior cost more than $15,000. Which is why GA owners are a bit scared of any new equipment requirements.

I was a mechanic in the transit industry and I had a saying. When you’re junior and you want weekends off you can’t get them. Once you’re senior and you’ve arranged your life around the shifts you don’t care if you get weekends off any more. Even if you can. Ps. We got paid extra for working Sundays.

As a longhaul truck driver who loves learning about aviation it always fascinates me how much trucking and aviation have in common when it comes to some of the realities of the jobs. The question about career choices, how some choices aren't up to you at all, how you prioritize whether you want to move to longhaul, regional, shorthaul trucking etc, how it all lines up with your life, how just like pilots a lot of truckers genuinely love their work (as do I, I love being in the truck) but ultimately how I am today is like Petter said "it eventually becomes a job". I love trucking, still do, but 6 years ago when I got into it, I got into it with that romanticism I'm sure a lot of pilots get into aviation over. And 6 years on, I do absolutely still love what I do, but it certainly a lot of days feels like "just a job" more than it used to 6 years ago when I started. Anyways, cheers boys, from a longhaul trucker who has really started to love aviation and has been thoroughly enjoying your content, stay safe out there!

49:20 my father-in-law is a captain on a 787 and he has found the best way to enjoy his layovers is to use his relatively high seniority to roster himself on flights to destinations that are not served by the airline every single day for example he might fly from Chicago to Venice on a Monday and when he lands another crew takes that plane back to Chicago there isn’t another flight for two days which guarantees him a two day layover and they leave a crew at the destination without an aircraft then they repeat he either does this if he wants to enjoy his layovers or he does his very best to fly the big “trunk routes” such ass New York to Los Angeles, where he will do one of those a day for three days then be done at home quickly

I'm disappointed Petter didn't show us the storm out the window. I love thunderstorms!

I saw one of the reports about BA919 which said "a drop of 2,000ft in just four minutes" and I thought - not ideal since it's unplanned, but that doesn't sound like an abnormal descent rate for an aircraft! I asked Deepseek which agreed - which is where I found out about mechanical backup in the Airbus - and I am quite excited that I knew about that before Ben!! 😂

I remember one UK newspaper headline: "14 Seconds From Disaster." It was a (non)story about a near miss. Try counting how many seconds you are from disaster literally every minute you spend driving on a Motorway. 27:51
