Thank you for watching, Terror Tribe!

Would you open the box?

Oh entitlement is such a good note in this!
Frank isn’t an explorer, his relationship to the world is one of an entitled unsatisfied customer, who believes he can be a clever enough customer to satisfy the hole he maintains by a failure to appreciate.
It’s not even the hedonic treadmill, it’s his dismissal of the value of the experiences he does have access to that makes him a monster.
The Box is what it is; there are people who are explorers who might welcome what it offers, but it’s easy to missunderstand by people like Frank.
The complex implications are one of the reasons Barker’s work is so fascinating.
Thank you for this brief but nicely on-point examination… you opened a very interesting door into this film.h

I'll rewatch this in a bit but my counter to just the title is: the real horror is wanting more but never, EVER being fulfilled.

Even the cenobites look bored and empty despite the horrors they've been through and had done to themselves.

Edit: damn glad we thought alike in our interpretations!

This is an important lesson from Hellraiser. Pinhead and the cenobites aren't the villains. Mankind's deepest desires, hedonism, lust and hubris are the villains

I'd probably open the box accidently fidgeting with it.

I'm not religious, btw, just interested in it:

I believe the horror of the the Lament Configuration is that it finds who it belongs to. This is a story of an infernal determinism. It reminds me of how religious scholars characterize true blasphemy, the kind that removes you from God: it isn't cursing his name or getting angry at him, it's about being so lost that you purposefully work against God's commandments to love your neighbor, to be hospitale and kind, and to be righteous.

People like Frank have fallen into blasphemous desire that is so extreme that they can't be saved, and it's because they don't want to be saved

I also believe that's why most people who open the box become cenobites; the agony becoming pleasure mirrors the loss of pleasure in being in accordance with God and his divine authority and the gain of pleasure in being consumed by hellfire.

Yes, I am aware of Barker's sexuality and the inspiration he took from the gay BDSM scene.

Hello, Terrorific Lady!  : - )

Consider this: The box, though not expressly stated, offers the promise of immortality.
Anyone opening the box has no hope of oblivion, they are damned to exist forever.
Most people (I believe) would do almost anything for the promise of immortality, although the price would be to suffer the torments of the Order of The Gash.
The cenobites have been reshaped and allowed to keep their skins...which is significant.
The non-cenobites in Leviathan's care are not allowed to keep their skins, they are stripped of their skins and their perspective identities.
The cenobites have a semblance of their former identities, but they are presented as both uniform, and unique, in the service of Leviathan.
The cenobites take pleasure in destroying and reshaping their victims, just as they eventually take pleasure in their own torture.
However, the cenobites believe they serve a great purpose, where their victims only seek self satisfaction.

In either case, the cenobites and their victims are immortal.

    Rock On!  : - )

We have such sights to show you

Great video, as per usual. Great discussion on the characters, I enjoyed it.

I would open the box 😊

The cut scenes they added into Hellbound show the true depths of Frank Cotton's emptiness.

(And her name is Curtsy 🤪🐢)

Excellent video! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Are you going to check out the Hellraiser Revival game?

Our Terroriftict Lady is back 🤘

I haven't seen Hellraiser in decades. The main thing I remember about it was people getting ripped apart (voluntarily?) by hooks on chains and of course the cenobites. I also remember its transgressive feeling, and that it went places I'd never seen in a horror film. Frank's seeking out + needing more + more extreme acts puts it less in the slasher genre in my mind than tales like Laura Palmer's story line, her doomed journey in TWIN PEAKS; or the characters in Cronenberg's CRASH (which I found mesmerizing and very true to Ballard's book which had so shocked + fascinated me back in '74).  After seeing Hellraiser I had to read a few Clive Barker books and while he never became a favorite they were interesting for coming at horror from a different place. I know I wouldn't open the box. I might have morbid tastes in entertainment but in real life I'm quite timid + pain averse.

I would suggest that there's something in Kirsty that wants what the Cenobites offer, even after her experience in their realm. Pinhead comments on her resistance and how he's not fully convinced by it.

It’s never enough. Until it is … Frank was done, he wanted out. I figure though, this story always works better for me when it’s about desire. Like, once the lines are blurred and there is no relief, there is no release … I guess 🤔 love how unique this movie is.

Love Hellraiser it's such a unique franchise.

I know what a chestburster feels like, so I'll pass on the pain-dimension.

666 views. Nice.

Hellraiser 2, most disappointing monster face-off ever. When your monster fight gets blown out of the water by Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, you f'd up bigtime
