"I finished a project! ... Let's start another" is a heckin mood

I made the skirt part of my wedding dress out of EPP. Full skirt(with pockets!) with all sorts of different white fabrics  cut into hexagons. It took forever! I regret nothing! 😂❤

Thank you for being candid about the ups and downs you experience. I’ve also been going through it these past few months and am relocating my life rhythm. Finding crafters like you and Ash Bentley has reignited my passion for all the crafts without the extreme perfectionism that comes along with some of the other crafting community. I spent most of July with a very frenetic energy that I just could not settle and I could not feel good about any direction I was going in. I’m on the low swing of that now and I’m capable of quiet time while still having that passion for craft and learning. Thank you for showing us your learning process and your community.❤

If you hole punch a little hole in the middle of your papers, you can pop those little suckers out super easy! Also, very satisfying to do so

“So it’s not a hexagon. It has six sides, which would make it a…. a hexagon.” I loved the look on your face as your brain was figuring that out. 🤣 Thank you for leaving that in the video! It brought me so much joy. 😂😂😂

Love EPP. Started a project while travelling-something to keep my hands busy.  Later I was stuck in the hospital for almost 3 weeks.  Between the trip and hospital, I finished a queen size quilt top with 1” hexagons. And kept my sanity.

I love that the 'cup holder' in your spool table works to hold the papers too! It's perfect.  Sad note: Our Remainders has stopped carrying fabric, So the nearest fabric store is 60+ miles away, Boo and hiss. But the first thing I thought when you opened this vid with such joy, was how lovely it is that both you and your husband found careers that make you so happy. Then we got to the reality that experiencing joy is not guaranteed'. Having a plan to switch things around and still be productive is a brilliant mental health plan. Oh, you just sort of said that. We knitters do that too - a project to take with, a project for tv watching or conversation and one for 'leave me be, I'm counting".

OMG. I have never seen this before. About 20 years ago, a favorite sewing store that I worked close to closed down. They had this beautiful Thai silk that was like $30 a yard..maybe even $60 but it was 20 years ago and my memory is fuzzy. Anyway, I bought one yard of every color because it was marked down so much during the liquidation. Figured it was so beautiful and expensive that I’d make art out of it, like a quilted wall hanging. Never quilted in my life, didn’t know how to start. I love hexagons, I know I can make a beautiful design out of hexagons. Also I can cut hexagons with very little waste. This is absolutely what I’m going to do with my Thai silk.

I didn’t see very clearly if yours is like that but some templates are made out of acrylic so clear plastic. You have to remove the brown protecting paper and then you can see trough the template for accurate placing. If you want, I found Tula Pinks video about how she does EPP very interesting and thorough. She uses magnet to old the pieces together and other tricks to make it easier, faster and more accurate. Enjoy your new venture !

That spool of thread lamp is amazing!

Also: the stitch basting method is an excellent way to use up vintage thread that wouldn't be normally strong enough for actual garment sewing. Using a hole punch on the templates can also help pop them out.

All I can say is that bag looks adorable AND practical.

6:40 there’s a paper backing on the acrylic template, peel it off and out makes it a lot easier to fussy cut exactly what you want. That’s why the seam allowance is etched into the template

I gathered and cut all my fruits and vegetable fabrics and made little hexagon garden plots with green gingham fencing between each garden. The centers are sunny yellow with bumblebees. It's about 2.5 ' by 3.5' and almost done. I'm not sure what it will be but I hope to finish it by December 15, which will be 3 years I've been working on it. I've loved doing it and probably will never do EPP again. 😂

I actually enjoy basting hexagons. It’s fine to be haphazard, and the finished hexagon is so cute. I find it a great use for those spools of thread you buy cheap, discover your sewing machine refuses to associate with, but can’t bring yourself to throw out. I have a VERY long-term EPP project using just one piece of each quilting cotton fabric I buy.  There is an overall plan, but for now it’s just a segmented box acquiring basted hexagons.

I tried it after watching Shannon’s travel and EPP video a couple years ago. I was hooked! I have made mainly appliqué pieces for my family’s clothes and backpacks etc. I have yet to make a quilt out of it. I love how portable and completely unplugged this craft is.

Sat here knitting my first ever pair of socks (and first ever cable knitting project...): on the multiple projects, I often find that (aside from ensuring at least one project is portable at all times), it's useful to have that one big project on the backburner- work on it when you want, and use it as motivation to get the little ones done! E.g. when I don't want to work on the big project, "oh at least do a little on the smaller one then". Means I get a lot more done than if it was single project or nothing.

If you make a knot at the start and end of each hexagon seam, you can cut them apart and adjacent hexes won't come undone 😊

...this is why Kate from The Last Homely House says "get out of your head and into your hands"... as a way to keep moving, even if in a different direction for a morning, or a day

EPP feels like a great method for a stained glass/mosaic type sewing project
