I remember being really worried initially when the first few issues were essentially a zombie story, but man has it just gotten better and better every month
I think the Zub omnibus is coming after issue 50. I say this for 2 reasons:
1. this is when Zub's contract with Titan expires. And regardless of whether he renews it or not; 2. issue 50 is supposed to wrap up the large over-arching story began with the first free comic book day issue.
Bonus reason, Zub also said he wanted to have a Conan book with his name on it that was "big enough to kill a small child."
So I could see a big honking book that will have all 50 issues, 4 FCBD issues, and 16 year event issues. (Maybe even the Savage Sword stories that connected to the main story arc). I'm envisioning something along the lines of Dark Horse's Colossal Conan omnis.
Titan Comics have been doing a great job so far. An omnibus would be nice to have. Expensive though, once you've already bought the floppies and the trades. I'm a little behind on the trades, now that I think of it. Thanks for the overview, Mike!
Superb run down sir! Yes...Conan...and in fact ALL of Howards heroes are in great hands. We are sooo fortunate. I love the recent depictions of Elkins and Steve Costigan ...pure pulp magic!
Really enjoyed your overview of Titan's Conan. Have been on the fence about checking them out but was impressed with some of the artwork I had seen. From someone like yourself that appreciates the character, it's especially helpful to persuade me to try some of those. Thanks for the fun look at the books.
I've been catching up with the Titan run lately. I'm not... enamored (shall we say?) with their reboot of Savage Sword, but I do think Zub and most of the artists are doing a great job with the color comics. That adaptation of "The Frost Giant's Daughter" was awesome; Braithwaite's art is really impressive, as you've said. Excited to get to the Alex Horley issues!
This run is what brought me back to comic books, and it was my first experience with Conan (I've since read the original REH stories and Roy Thomas Marvel runs) and it is soooooo good! de la Torre and Braithwaite do such wonderful job with the art, and the Horley covers are incredible. Best thing going in comic books right now and I hope after all is said and done we get MULTIPLE Zub omnis!
Great content! My favorite Conan artist was John Buscema, who penciled many 80's Conan the Barbarian comics that I collect. But nothing comes close to the magazine format Savage Sword of Conan. Although, I prefer the late 70's and early 80's comics just because those were the years I was into Conan comic books.
