Aussie here-I never got to read American comics as a kid [British father] this year-age 60-I started buying comics [because I liked the movies] D.C Finest are ideal-as I want to read them and keep them on a shelf rather than a plastic bag. It's great being able to catch up with the old stories, as I love the older style of art.
My eyesight is failing. I know people hate them, but zooming on digital versions allows me to continue enjoying comics. I would love to get digital versions of the FInest.
DC is killing it with this series. Ive picked up several. Theyre built well and priced right. I hope these sell well and the format lasts for decades. Ive reviewed a few on my channel. Keep it up DC!
After some hesitation, I dove right into the DC Finest line. DC’s hardcover strategy is still a mess, but they’re knocking it out of the park with the Finest series. Really hope we get the War that Time Forgot, Haunted Tank, and the western Johnny Thunder among many, many others.
Its a blessing that a company is interested to put these stories together for us. A night DC fan and I am happy to collect allcthe dc finest to hopefully be able to keep these type of history in my house I hope my daughter is interested in reading also as she gets a little older
I am so glad for this line, as well as Marvel's epic collection. These days I am pretty much only reading comics from the past, and these are great to finally get to stories I have never had access to before. And as a comic collector for over 20 years, I really enjoy having everything in one place, instead of having to dig through multiple boxes to find everything I need to read in order.
Got the Blue Beetle collection. It was decent, but had one flaw. They left out the final Ditko BB story that was planned for #6 that later saw print in the "Charlton Portfolio" put out by CPM Gang. DC included it in their Action Heroes Archive, so there is no excuse leaving it out. They ALSO left out some early Charlton BB stories, but leaving out the final Ditko BB is worse. Their Peacemaker volume left out the work done for the planned 6th issue that others did print. Wish they had included it. And I believe they left out something from the first JSA collection. The LSH collection kind of starts off where their LSH Omni left off, which is good.
I read Metamorpho in the black and white showcase volume. So when I found out they were doing him in DC's finest, I gave my Showcase to the used bookstore and preordered the Finest volume. It is a very fun series and basically a parody of Lee/Kirby's stuff at Marvel. It's writer Haney was one of the first people to realize Marvel would be serious competition to DC.
Plastic Man is great. Definitely, read that volume. The Harley Quinn was okay, but she's a character that only really shines when Paul Dini is writing her.
Really, looking forward to the War and Sgt. Rock volumes.
When they start with later stories, as with Silver Age JLA and Green Lantern, it's a way to increase sales: you get a "first" volume people eagerly jump on with, then the next volume comes out and people want the reprints of the actual "firsts."
Anyway, the reason there weren't many Superboy reprints in recent decades was due to the Jerry Siegel Estate lawsuit vs. DC regarding the rights to the character.
