Did Korben Dallas really just magically appear inside the Egyptian temple? Discover the deleted scene that reveals exactly how they found the entrance, plus 9 other mind-blowing hidden truths from The Fifth Element (1997) that change everything you know about this sci-fi classic.

Almost three decades after its release, The Fifth Element remains one of the most visually stunning and expensive French science fiction films ever made. However, the theatrical cut hid fascinating alternative storylines, deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes chaos. From an early script draft where Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg miraculously survives the Fhloston Paradise explosion, to a terrifying human form intended for Mr. Shadow, Luc Besson's original vision for this cinematic masterpiece was remarkably different.

In this deep dive, we explore 10 hidden truths about the 1997 blockbuster. We unpack the missing journey to the Egyptian temple, the real-world economic debate sparked by Zorg's broken glass philosophy, and the controversial lawsuit involving legendary comic artist Moebius. We also reveal the director's true explanation of what the "fifth element" actually represents—proving it goes far beyond a simple love story between Korben and Leeloo.

Whether you're curious about the secret Easter eggs hidden decades later in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the deleted alien garbage strike scene, or the off-screen romance that blossomed during production, this retrospective uncovers the fascinating cinematic history of a genre-defining film.

If you were Leeloo and saw everything humans have done throughout history, would you still choose to save humanity? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

As a kid I linked the garbage strike with the mass layoffs by zorg

Absolute classic! It's easily one of the most fun sci-fi movies ever made.

Wrong from the first point.
Zorg placed a bomb and left in his ship only to realize the stones were once again, not in a case. He flies back and deactivates his bomb with 5 seconds left only to have a Mangalore set a 5 second timer for his own bomb which destroys the cruise ship.

This is my favorite science fiction movie. The pacing of this movie is perfect. The performances are stellar. The plot is fantastic. It's a must see.

One of the flight attendants mentions the strike.

Besides getting the bomb wrong, I believe in the airport scenes an announcement was made about the strike and garbage, so it was explained.

Zorg disarmed his own bomb. He did not realize that the mangalors had left a bomb as well.

For me, the 5th element is and always will be love.

First provided "fact" is wrong. The bomb Zorg diffused was his own bomb, not the Mangalor's bomb.

Zorg arrived at the Flohston Paradise cruise ship to take the stones, and just before leaving, he placed a bomb in the Diva's suite. He later deactivated the bomb when he was forced to return to the ship. Then he discovers the Mangalores had placed a different, exponentially bigger bomb, which goes off, destroying the ship and killing him.

I seldom rewatch movies, but I have watched "The Fifth Element" at least seven times. It does not get old.

I remember a short beat at the airport where someone mentioned that the garbage collectors were on strike but you never saw them on screen.

That Giant Police Pig narrowly missed being a ubiquitous internet meme.

Am I the only one who always thinks about how much devastation would be caused by a 1200 mile diameter object hanging out approximately 62 miles from the planet? Especially given its visual proximity to the moon ?
