This may be the single most uber-specific nitpick, but the enhanced clarity of the outdoor areas changes my perception of them, going from 'How I loved being in the outdoors all day in the summer as a kid" to "How much I don't enjoy being outdoors all day in the summer as an adult"
I have to agree, the original had a classic oil painting vibe, which suits the vibe of the Witcher universe so much better, because it simply is a story of the past age and it's dark and blurry, not bright and clean
As someone who still didn’t play the game, I think the the original looks more distinct and interesting. The remaster is way closer to a generic UE5 look. I dislike when remasters change the look of iconic games rather than just increase fidelity. I’ll just wait until someone backport the best changes to the original.
It looks brighter, but also more washed out. The textures are more detailed and clearer but I wouldn't necessarily say it looks "better". The dark areas suited the game and the subject matter better than just shining a bright light on everything, making it over exposed. Overrall it looks okay but I think the original was fine as it was.
The colour palette of the remaster is so COLD.. It has like no warmth at all and really takes away from the fairytale vibes and comforting colours of the original. The foest at night especially loses the character the original had as well.
Art direction over realism for me. Always. The most memorable moment that Witcher 3 gave me was seeing a rainy, stormy morning in White Orchard for the first time. The colors, the contrast and the perfect recreation of that rare, special lighting when there's a thick, heavy blanket of dark clouds overhead but the sun is still so low that it shines underneath the clouds. Trees bathed in bright orange morning light in front of dark teal-ish gray rain clouds. Breathtaking. There was no realistic ray tracing or path tracing system that would accidentally create a similar mood through the right combination of sun position loops and randomized weather effects. Someone made that intentionally. It didn't have quite the same effect after the 2022 update. They got rid of the warm color grading and teal became blue and yellow became pale. Everything looked a little more generic and the colors had less harmony. And I'm scared to look now
This is the best graphics comparison I've ever seen. Touched upon everything and found perfect time and place recreations to compare. Really impressive
The original looks so much better. The art style is miles better than the artificial/realistic look of the remaster. It's like comparing a painting to a photograph.
