Tor's Cabinet of Curiosities

Introducing my favorite episode of TCOC I've ever done. This one has been in the works since long before Tor's Cabinet was on YouTube, and I even named one of my Patreon tiers as a reference to it. At long last...we're breaking free. Thank you so much to Annie Rauwerda for agreeing to feature on this episode! Now I've really made it.

The sordid tale of Scots Wikipedia: How a Wikipedia User Spent Years Faking a ...

Who deserves to have more Wiki page translations than Corbin Bleu?

"If cheesy chicken had as many translations on Wikipedia as Theater Kid, it would be by far the most translated food item on Wikipedia." sounds like a loading screen tip.

I like how you have him on a thumbnail and still so adamantly keeping the intrigue for as long as possible 😂

I hadn't heard of this before, but when you laid out the initial mystery, my first conclusion was "This is the weird pet project of one person obsessed with linguistics" and I'm glad to be vindicated

My personal headcanon is Corbin Bleu himself just blacks out sometimes, writes a Wikipedia entry for himself in some new language he didn't know before, and then wakes up with no memory of the event

The beautiful thing about a free encyclopedia anyone can edit is, is that we're all in it together

My great uncle Trevor was definitely autistic, though he never got diagnosed. He was completely obsessed with cars - he had tons of models and books; and could identify any car, truck or lorry he saw.
When he died and we went through his house, we saw that he even his bars of soap were car-shaped.
I never got to know him closely, and I think it's a shame. I would have loved to talk about his passion with him.

Historians 2000 years in the future: While we have no direct record of his work, All seem to indicate that Corbin Bleu was one the of the most important artist of the 21st century

Corbin Bleu’s wiki page being referred to as a “Latter Day Rosetta Stone” is absolutely amazing. I love this channel ❤

Whoever is the person or people that translate his page, I do feel sorry for them, since Corbin just recently joined the broadway production of Gatsby, I can only imagine trying to update all of that

I used to use a free VPN (i dont remember which one) to get around my school's firewall around this time. It didnt let you pick which server you connected to and it would almost always set itself to Saudi Arabia.

So if someone wanted to use a VPN to hide their identity, but were too cheap/broke to pay for a subscription, it might end up looking like they lived in Saudi Arabia.

"A Papua New Guinean boarding school student playing six clicks to Hitler" is now my new favorite sentence in the English language

That you can put him almost front and center in the thumbnail, and still command a level of mystery because next to nobody knows who Bleu is, speaks volumes louder than words ever could about just how weird it is.
