I like how almost every photo of the Goo-Mobile was literally almost the same quality as a bigfoot sighting.

The video made me realize that one day there will be mall goth themed amusement parks targeting folks in their 80s.

As much as I love the sweeping documentaries and overarching narratives you’ve been making in more recent years, I will say I have missed these self-contained retrospectives

I noted how you made a few comments in your video about older people, being close to death, and possibly not even making to the end of of their visit. I'm in my 70's and have just had some cancer screening. Watching your video and hearing these comments, made my laugh out loud for the first time in months. I laughed again the next day recalling your video, when I was buying a pair of work boots, and being told by the sales person, that they will last a life time. Thank you sir, you made me smile!

List of most consequential persons in Defunctland:
* Michael Eisner
* Robert Moses
* Walt Disney
* God

Getting ten minutes into this video full of quaint Americana and tourism pitfalls only to be completely assaulted by the terms “goo-crew” and “twizzler-mobile” was something I was NOT ready for.

The silent comedy of that woodworker scraping away goes to show how finely crafted these videos are.

"Unfortunately, the high-octane nature of the parrots..." is pure gold.

seeing a defunctland about an actual defunct theme park is fascinating after so many years

“Bumping your buddy is fun for everyone!” the spirit of Garfield’s Nightmare looks down and smiles

23:18 - that’s my family! We modeled for the theme parks Celebration City, Silver Dollar City and White Water (we were a family of seven kids so there was plenty of people to work with and they gave us season passes in return). We had to ride the roller coasters over and over and smile so big it made our faces ache. It was such a quintessential part of my childhood and I still have dreams about it all the time. You can catch them all over the middle part of the video at 25:27 (my mom and my sister followed by my dad and my brother on Wildcat) Also one of the best things about Celebration City was that Silver Dollar City was incredibly hilly (because the Ozarks) and Celebration city was really flat which made it much easier to walk around. I think this was a big reason people didn’t hop over to Celebration City after because Silver Dollar city was EXHAUSTING to walk around in the heat so you just wanted to be done with your day. We rarely went to both in one day. My whole family is at 34:34 and 43:23 walking into the park- I’m the little girl at the front and now I’m 30. Anyway thanks for this video, it’s crazy I made it into a Defunctland video after years of being a viewer, so surreal.

A church taking residence in the shell of an abandoned Branson tourist attraction is such a perfect summary of the Ozarks. It seems like it should be a parody but that’s like, bog standard here

Absolutely love the look of pure, almost-fatal levels of boredom on the kid's face as his Mom gushes about the light show.

the fact that a 48 minute video is a ‘short’ defunctland video is kinda incredible

the climax of the nightly show being reagan saying "tear down this wall" followed by fireworks feels like a parody you'd see for "a theme park aimed at boomers"

Those quotes from Steve Honeycutt are such red flags to highlight how poorly this place would be run. Lots of winging it, which you cannot do with projects this size. "Oh we only have parking for 16% of the capacity but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it." "We might stay open until 12 we'll see, our employees will just really have no idea when they get to go home for the day and shift assignment and staff budgeting will be a nightmare."

the branson usa ymca parody is so unbelievably hilarious, i love that they dropped every single letter in the dance except for “A” like there was not even an attempt for any other letters

Kevin. This is not a joke. I literally laughed so hard at "young HOT baby boomers" that I choked on a Brussels sprout and my sister had to do the heimlich on me.

If a video is so good that it nearly kills me, it's genuinely an amazing video.

the guy turning wood on the lathe is a tour de force of comedic timing in editing.

Only Kevin can show me a park destination I've never heard of in my life and keep me enthralled listening to him talk about it for 45+ minutes.
