Phew a video. Here I was starting to come to terms with having to let those silly old thoughts back into my noggin.

"Nobody stops a dog going through security."

This is completely untrue. My wife has a service dog and that dog gets a patdown from the TSA every single time.

wouldve been cool if harry created a spell to win against voldemort instead of just spamming the hell out of expelliarmus

Reparo, the enemy of every home appliances company

I feel like the vanishing question also ties into transfiguration. If you are turning a desk into a pig you are bringing a full adult pig mind into the world, fully-formed. In the same way, if you turn a pig into a desk, you are "vanishing" that pig in a way. It's soul, or something like that. And then... If you turn it back into a pig well....

I've always liked the idea that, similar to a patronus, all spells require specific intention. Simpler spells require simpler concepts, and trickier spells require harder to grasp concepts, sequences of thoughts undistracted, mental pictures, etc, all paired with recitation of an incantation.

If Lumos could be cast on fingertips or other body parts the school at night would look like everyone has fireflies trapped in their pants/clothes.

This is kinda more about transfiguration, but we know that vanishing dead bodies must have some kind of roadblock as to why it can’t be done because body disposal is apparently still a problem in the HP universe and authority figures still look for bodies when investigating murders and disappearances.

When Crouch JR killed his father, he transfigured his body into a bone and buried it. Crouch JR, while fanatical, isn’t necessarily the world’s best wizard, but if he could have vanished the body then why didn’t he do it?

Moreover, when he turned the body into a bone, why not vanish that? Do transfigured objects somehow retain an inherent level of complexity from their past forms?

I looked at the Protean charm more like a Google doc that everyone has a read only of, except for me as the admin.

The question about mechanization and employment is kinda silly; obviously, we have pretty extensive automation in real life and still have a bunch of menial jobs, despite the fact that a computer program is not any more difficult to copy than a magic spell. Cheap labor is preferable to pretty much any kind of automation because you know what a human is capable of and will do, whereas it's a lot less certain when and if an automaton will break. If the labor's cheap (or free in the case of House Elves), why would you bother using anything else?
You see this dichotomy in real life; in areas where human labor is expensive, such as America or Britain, corporations have a strong interest in complex automation. In areas where human labor is cheap and available, such as Brazil or Thailand, automation isn't appealing because it's more costly from an infrastructure perspective than just hiring some hands.

A seperate note: there is a VERY good case to be made that your animagus form is the same as whatever your Patronus is. Sirious Patronus is a large dog, jus like his animagus form. James patronus is a Male Deer like his animagus. I feel like becoming an animagus is somehow unloccing the form that your patronus takes in a way that allows you to move into that form instead of conjure that form.

EDIT: SNAPES PATRONUS DID NOT CHANGE. Stop saying it did. Snape was in Love with lily as a KID, before he knew the patronus charm. It was always a part of his identity. If you can find me the actual text that says it changed, then I'll believe you. Other wise stop bringing up Snape.
Same for tonks. She's an Metamorphmagus. Its a part of her identity that she can literally change to be wtv she wants. It makes sense hers could change cause thats actively reflecting who she is.

Surely Arthur's patronus isn't... A weasel? Nah, that would be too easy.

On the pocket dimension spell , Moddy got imprisoned in his chest that basically has the same spell for a Year, so I think it's clear that a person could hide inside Hermione purse depending on the size she has made it

With Vanishing, I think Draco's story about Montague in HBP helps a bit. Draco states that when Fred and George stuffed Montague into the functioning Vanishing Cabinet at Hogwarts, he ended up in some kind of limbo stuck between Hogwarts and Borgin and Burke's (due to the B&B cabinet being broken) and he ended up having to Apparate out of the limbo he was in, which Draco states 'nearly killed him'.

It may be that the cabinets just use the title Vanishing and it has nothing to do with the Vanishing Spell itself, but it does lend credence to the idea that Vanished objects do end up in some kind of void.

29:46 don't they store the magical tent inside the handbag? So a pocket dimension inside a pocket dimension. DnD would like to have a word

To me its an interesting idea that all the spell that create something from nothing only work because people use vanishing spells. Mconagle says they go into non-being which is to say everything, which to me almost reads like a vanishing spell takes a thing and converts it into magical potential stuff, and then a spell that makes a thing from nothing takes that magical potential stuff and shapes it into the thing that you are trying to manufacture. Which makes them 2 halves of a closed loop you want to make water from nothing well you better vanish an equivalent volume of stuff. The spells dont mention this because the air is suffused with magical potential stuff because people vanish things all the time

5:13 I always thought any mundane objects, unless burnt to nothing, can be repairoed and magical objects can't because they were made with magic or have complex electrical systems. Therefore, a wizard with Repairo can repair anything in the Muggle world except electronics, so I could become a wizard mechanic who can fix almost anything except wires, computers, radios, stereos, screens, or batteries, as the wizarding world seems to not use electricity except in radios and I think that's more like a magical radio since if it wasn't it would be very confusing to have a Muggle listen to Wizard radio, so it must be magical and not electronic.

36:24 tbh i didn't think "Avada Kedavra" was anything besides her trying make abra kadabra make sense in a world of magic. not sure if she ever said that in an interview or not

29:09 We actually have an answer to this. Moody was kept in his own trunk for months, which is the same kind of magically extended space.

That particular trunk is also weird because the inside changes depending on which key is inserted, meaning that the magically expended space of Moody’s cell, doesn’t actually occupy the trunk when a different key is inserted.

Maybe a video about problematic magical items and artifacts is in order?
