The frustrating thing is these inconsistencies wouldn’t bother me nearly as much if Rowling just came out and said “I never expected these books to become so popular, I was just trying to write a fun fantastical children’s story so I didn’t put much time into making every little thing make perfect sense.” But the mental gymnastics she’s doing and the crazy amount of absurdities she’s shoehorning into this world retroactively makes it really difficult to just enjoy the stories for what they are.

One of the most accurate comparisons I've heard for Quidditch is "Imagine you go to a basketball game to watch the Lakers play the Mavericks. You're watching them go at it, back and forth over and over again. Meanwhile, two players are out in the parking lot looking for a frog. You've completely forgotten about them, are totally invested in the game in front of you, and suddenly the announcer declares that the game is over, the Dallas Mavericks have caught the parking lot frog."

Pretty sure the Slytherin dorms just weren't in the dungeons in book one. They just didn't exist yet, at all. Thats a general HP thing, places and concepts only come into existence once Harry directly interacts with them. Until then, nobody uses them at all.

I find it crazy that Olivander sold Harry his wand for seven galleons, telling him it was one of a kind and then casually mentioned to Harry, an 11-year-old orphan, its magic core came from the same source as the wand used by his parents' murderer to try to kill him when he was a baby.

What unreasonably bothers me about the Basilisk is how easy they are to make - have a toad sit on a chicken’s egg and it will hatch into a Basilisk. Um….. what? Every 12 year old boy in the world would be doing this. Someone like the Weasley twins would be breeding and selling them for 80 cents each

Oh, if these books WERE realistic Felix Felicis addiction would be a HUGE problem in the wizarding world, no doubt. Potion abuse, in general, would be a much larger problem than protrayed.

One additional issue i have is how rich students are allowed to play in regulated matches with canonically faster brooms than others. This unfair advantage that non-wealthy students would lose out on could easily be eliminated with simple equipment regulations.

Plus its also a little funny how we are supposed to feel disgusted with the Slytherns getting this advantage with the Nimbus 2001s in the second book, but be completely fine with Harry getting the same advantage on separate occasions.

What I don't understand about the free hat thing is that Elf's apparently can't be freed through "accidental gifts". First of all, hermonie isn't even the owner of the elf's. They are probably Dumbledore's "property" so picking up these hats shouldn't do anything? Besides they were left by her with the intention of them picking them ACCIDENTALLY up. So under no circumstances should they get freed through her actions right? But then why are the elf's afraid to accidentally pick them up. And why would they assume they are gifts instead of just laundry someone threw in random places?

my least favorite thing is how JK introduces things like "Veritaserum" and a cauldron you can literally view other peoples memories in. But in the very next part of the book where those things would be very useful (proving Voldemort is alive) everybody forgets they exist like it wasn't literally in the previous chapter.

Regarding Parseltongue: In book 7 we learn Ron learnt how to mimic Harry's parseltongue and open the Chamber of Secrets to retrieve Basilisk' fang. So other people 100% can hear it, enough to mimic it perfectly.

Regarding Sirius taking money from his vault, the simple answer is that the wizarding government doesn't actually control the bank and the goblins who do don't care. To them, who cares if you're a wanted criminal, money is money.

Biggest gripe i have is from Goblet of Fire

The whole "binding magical contract" that you don't even have to sign. Crouch Jr stole a signature from one of Harry's pieces of homework and threw it in the goblet, Harry didn't, so in the magic world all you need for a binding contract is for someone to steal your signature without you being present to authenticate it? Fraud must be RAMPANT

The Quidditch snitch issue makes more sense when you consider that Rowling 100% thinks catching the snitch (individual accomplishment) is more important than the team winning

51:09 it’s much worse than just that, Harry doesn’t even have to be killed. He got control of the Elder wand because he took a different wand from Malfoy. He didn’t even hurt his and it wasn’t even a battle. That wand is going to be out of Harry’s power the very first time someone throws an expelliarmus at him, maybe even his own kid if he enjoys that spell as much as Harry does.

Another thing to consider is that you really have to take what Riddle's diary says with a grain of salt. It's literally 16 year old Voldy trying to manipulate Harry. We have no idea if the diary portrayed events truthfully or not. It was an unreliable narrator of the highest order.

If felix felicis made sense it would concentrate your luck in a short time period, making you more unlucky in a larger time period. If you'd abuse of it something catastrophic would be bound to happen to you as compensation for all the good luck you borrowed.
