I will say though, Slughorn has a better redemption arc because he at least gives the memory and while you can argue he was drunk and there was Felix Felicis...at the end of the story, he was fighting Voldemort with Kingsley and McGonagall. Like, no matter how much you could say he was afraid etc, at the end he gave himself to literally fight the Dark Lord knowing it could mean his death. That for me, is Slughorn showing where Slytherin house's loyalty lay.

The twins and Ron are already menaces to Percy, he’s not gonna give them any more fuel they can use to tease and mock him further. Getting a girlfriend is a good thing, doesn’t stop people from ripping on you and being annoying about it.

“Harry had once before had the experience of seeing something that Ron could not, but that had been a reflection in a mirror, something much more insubstantial than a hundred very solid-looking beasts strong enough to pull a fleet of carriage….they compared the mirror to the thestrals. Thanks for keeping my mind open

Harry isn't the only person to have survived death in general at this point, he's specifically the only known survivor of the Avada Kedavra spell. So the ancient love protection spell could still have been used to cheat death in the distant past, just not from the killing Curse as far as anyone knows.

Sorry if you’ve already addressed this. For Chapter 1, worst birthday, y’all remark about how unlike Dudley it is to remember Harry’s birthday. I’d suggest it has more to do with the fact that a Giant broke into their remote island get away and Dudley got a tail that day, i.e., the day was important to Dudley so he remembered it, vs Dudley remembering the day because of Harry per she. For the taunting, from Dudley’s perspective, I’d imagine something like - ‘you were such a big deal all this fuss was made for your last birthday. Now that you’ve been around your weird friends for a year, no one wants to know you or be associated with you.’ My head cannon at least. LOVE the show. Hate that work and life-stuff get in the way of keeping up.

De-gnoming the garden was my favorite part of the Playstation 1 version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It was so fun to try for a high score.

Named houses are actually very common in the UK, and the process for getting your house named is trivial. These days the house name is generally in addition to a numbered address, but historically not so.

My headcannon for why the "plot" takes months is because Lucius is gaining power so when a Muggleborn dies, he can immediately call for Dumbledore to be sacked and for Hagrid to go to Azkaban.

Also he's planning for how he'll lead the dark wizards alongside the heir of slytherin, whomever that is.

He's also planning for his own protection because the chamber hides a monster and he doesn't know what it is.

British listener here, Majorca is more like half spring break, half retirement home. Generally cheap to get to, accommodation relatively cheap. And travel costs are very low. Some resorts are old people and some place are a young adults paradise

British listener here! House names are actually pretty common in the UK, particularly in rural areas. The house I grew up in had a name instead of a number!

The theme song for the founders series needs to be a Harry Potter-ified version of the Friends theme song.

I love the like 15 minute conversation trying to tie having houses have names as being uniquely wizardly

No, thats just Britain, theres loads of house that have no numbers but are just names around here

I think any teasing of Arthur by his own family about his love for all things Muggle is very much loving teasing - Dad's amusing foible.

I think what makes something count as a 'misused muggle artefact' is more about it being able to do something on it's own without a wizard present, and able to be accidentally activated by a muggle. I imagine what makes a lot of magical items that resemble muggle things legal is that a simple charm is required to activate/recharge it.

Majorca I believe was an early jet set holiday location for English people once consumer air travel was available in the 60’s and 70’s. From there I think Majorca morphed into little England, where you could get a lot of familiarities of home but with warm weather, roast dinner on Sundays etc

on the chimney/fireplace discussion, I have worked in houses from the turn of the 19th-20th century in the US that had/still have fireplaces in many rooms, in some cases they would all share a chimney run, but in others there would be multiple chimneys. Add on top of that the add-on style that is sometimes seen in rural houses here in the states, it actually makes sense as it may have been easier to add a new chimney onto an addition then to tie into an existing chimney, as for the number not being specific, given that Harry saw it at the break of dawn, between maybe not being fully awake, poor lighting and the specific angle of approach, he may have seen 2 similar ones nearly lined up with each other and was unable to differentiate one from the other

@LufasMaphaahl420 1 year ago

People always talk about the house elves from a human perspective, but personally I'm more interested in how the elves themselves view things

@Shonufff88 5 months ago (edited)

1:38:30 I'm pretty sure Dobby knew Winky before Hogwarts. Because Dobby had an epiphany that Hogwarts is the only place that could hire two free elfs.

While listening the thought occurred to me that though Nearly Headless Nick explains to Harry why Sirius wouldn’t come back as a ghost they don’t really fully explain the types of circumstances that would lead a witch or wizard to come back as a ghost after dying. Like, would Wormtail? He was always such a weak-willed character clinging onto the “power” of others, and he seemed genuinely frightened for his life at numerous occasions. It would stand to reason that he would also fear death, and perhaps fulfill enough requirements to come back as a ghost? Where would he haunt, I can’t imagine him going back to Hogwarts? He’s the only character out of the people that die throughout the series that made me actually wonder, but can you imagine if for some reason Fred came back as a ghost? I could just see him haunting at Hogwarts with Peeves and causing chaos with their dual shenanigans for decades to come. George and the rest of the Weasleys could come visit him, and he could help future Weasley generations carry on his and George’s mischievous spirit while at school. Doubt he would come back as a ghost, but still a fun thought. 😂
