Thanks for watching! The Mexico missions in this game are basically one of the reasons I wanted to research history in the first place, so I'm very happy to finally share this.

Any missions, locations, characters, or events (in this game or others) that have had that impact on you?

I always thought that when Mueller says "There must be a name for this" it was a joke about the term Mexican Standoff which also happened to be a common trope in wild west movies of the kind that inspired both Red Dead Redemption games.

If rdr2 had mexico 🇲🇽 in it then it would be perfect

23:20 Damn i was very ready to learn the origin of the phrase Mexican standoff.

Far Away is such an incredible song. Can’t help but get emotional during this scene.

The time period the Mexico portion of RDR is set is around the time my great grandfather left Zacatecas, Mexico directly because of the Mexican revolution. In his writings & what he told his descendants was that it was madness. Everyone was killing everyone, bandits were everywhere & many would kill, rob, and kidnap. My grandfather’s eldest brother was taken by Revolutionaries as a teen soldier. He would go on to become a Lieutenant Colonel under Pancho Villa.

I live in America now & grew up in both countries on the border. We ended up west but I do sometimes wonder what life would have been like if my Great Grandfather had stayed. He abhorred the violence so much in Mexico that he went all the way to Chicago where my grandfather was partly raised. Thats a hell of a distance to get away from it all

"Easy, Germany. Calm yourself down!"

This phrase could have multiple references, but it's most likely to be directed towards Germany and their actions which will contribute to World War 1 just three years after this game's setting in 1914. Making John's words here quite prescient.

23:22 it's a reference to a Mexican stand-off.

My great grandmother was born in Mexico in 1910. Around 1916 she remembered her father giving shelter to a woman in the middle of the night who looked as if she had been whipped and beaten with a shovel. Her father and mother took pity on her and they lent her aid. That woman stayed in their smoke house for a while before moving on. A few days later a company from the US Army, or a rival rebel group, came by the village kicking down doors and asking for that womans whereabouts. She never found out who she was but later on in life my great grandmother assumed she was the wife of a high ranking official who was fleeing and barely clinging on by a thread. Eventually they reached my great grandmothers house and literally dragged her father behind their horses not before cutting off one of her mother's fingers. The patrol then rode fast towards the mountains far off in sight. She never saw her father again.

She loathed and hated the United States for the rest of her life until her death in 2006.

I will forever be looking to feel and experience the emotion I felt when riding into Mexico for the first time.

I was born in the hospital next to the cemetery where Victoriano Huerta is buried. My hometown of El Paso Texas was vital to the revolutionaries. It was also from here that the punitive expedition was launched in 1916 in an attempt to capture Pancho Villa after his raid on Columbus, New Mexico. It was led by General John Pershing and included George Patton who was a young lieutenant. The expedition was a failure but it helped to US army prepare for its involvement in the great war.

When the game came out it hadn't even been 100 years since the time in which it takes place, although only a year shy.

Nigel West Dickens is still my favourite character in this game, but Landon Ricketts has some truly stellar dialogues with John. Definitely a big highlight of the Mexico act.

Love the RDR soundtrack so much, it compliments these videos so well

Very cool video! But as Mexican, I'd argue that Abraham Reyes is actually based on Emiliano Zapata, one of the two big revolunary leaders in parallel with Pancho Villa after Madero was killed. I say this based on A. Reyes ideas on giving land to the peasants and so on, which particularly Zapata was very reknown for. Also how he looks like, especially when you see him in his propaganda posters, it's all Zapata, message and appearance.

15:15 how fucking baller is it to be one of literally FOUR individuals in US history to wear the very medal named for them, and wear the medal in reverse so your face isn't showing?

Most modest bastard ever.

I'm actually kind of proud that RDR1 was developed in my home of San Diego.

Thankyou for making this video about my country mate, no one talks about this part of history which is a huge shame, cheers

Another game that needs a "How Historically Accurate...?" Is Kingdom Come Deliverance 1&2

It’s a good day already
