Happy to be mentioned among some really good games!

Kingdom Come Deliverance armor has an insane amount of detail

Remember guys the only thing that realy metters is DRIP, you need to aura farm in front of you enemy

Similar to the Witcher, Demon's Souls & Dark Souls have armour which looks practical while having a lot of character. FromSoft's designs became more fantastical as the games went on, but those early games look like something you'd realistically wear.

Since this video covered Fantasy armour. I think part 2 should cover Sci-fi armour.

There's actually a mod for KCD2 that makes the armor even more authentic, because some of the real nerds just weren't content with the original.

prigozhin jumpscare, guy that blue-balled the world.

Somebody made witcher style armor pieces with chainmail directly put on leather "plates". And it performed fairly well, with good flexibility and good protection against attacks you can expect from monsters.

I'd say giving Skyrim a B tier is very generous. With few expections, even the pieces inspired by historical pieces look like they're made out of a a half-inch thick piece of cast metal. And the various helmet protrusions get you killed in a real fight rather quickly.

Good to see a kcd make an appearance

10:01 fun fact: there actually exist a late roman helmet with a metal crest coined "intercisa", worn by centurions from the 4th century onwards

Interesting fact about the flair in the back of Roman helmets... it's designed to protect the neck. A person's natural response when a strike is heading towards them it to flinch. When the soldier flinched, they plate in the back moved forward to protect the neck from a strike.

11:11 there's a lore reason for why daedric armor is like that. Daedra represent change and chaos and the armor embodies that with the contradiction between its appearance and functionality.  The small eye holes and bulky plates and spikes should reduce visibility and and freedom of movement, but the armor from another realm doesn't follow Nirn's rules and they can see clearly and aren't impeded. It just works.

An interesting way of defending exaggerated and impractical fantasy armor using in-universe lore.

The thing with geralts armour having buckles in the front, is that he's normally in the wilderness, he needs to be able to take it off and put it back on himself, even in that video you showed someone else was doing up that knights buckles for them, he's also needs those belts to hold his alchemy potions

20:44, Witcher's always have a potion or magical reagent, for like every conceivable monster they could run into. For a book version that virtually never fights humans, you need that "utility belt" effect. It might be over doing it, but they need a lot of pouches

Half sword would be fun to look at. Could be a short and sweet segment to the next video. Mount and blade bannerlord, warband and less so napoleonic wars could be their own entire video each with how many cultures and influences youd have to talk about.

From an actual 3d-modelling perspective perhaps the game that has the best rendering of armour in existence is the modern Star Wars Battlefront.
It actually renders Stormtrooper and Clone Trooper armour as individual solid hard plates that do not stretch or bend mounted on a flexible body and undersuit. The armour pieces can move and change position relative to the body and each other, but they themselves are solid objects, as they should be.

No other game I know of does this, armour is always just part of the overall character model and will bend and contort to some degree as the character model moves, which real armour plates obviously do not.

Regarding helmets and padding/size, it's really dependent on the period and threat people faced. If you look at archaic/classical Greek helmets, they were quite tight fitting with minimal padding. They weren't really facing blunt force weapons. Even into the Roman era, padding was pretty minimal. Padding in HEMA/buhurt is significantly more than what people worse historically.

This being said, great video

Kenshi armor sets or other lore video would be quite fun if you have checked the game out before o7
