Sean MacGuire and Molly O'Shea are also a reference to a secret society of irish immigrants in the US, the Molly MacGuires who were a mix of revolutionaires, outlaws, and Coal Miners using violence against the monopolies of the late 19th century.

The Molly MacGuires were dismantled by the Pinkerton detective agency in real life by, guess what, infiltration with a pinkerton detective as a spy who coordinated many arrests and some deaths in the secret society.

Rockstar doesnt do anything by accident. The only 2 irish characters in the gang just so happen to reference a secret society that were everything Dutch claimed he was, and were themselves dismantled by a spy planted by the exact same detective agency? Thats not a coincidence

I'm actually a bit concerned that I never noticed how gross Sean was until now

When they lowkey slandering your goat but they are correct

When i played i never seen the creepy side of Sean. He was always drunk at camp by himself or singing. Always felt he was just another crazy kid.

It's legit staggering how much nuance on the characters you miss by NOT loitering around camp and being off doing other stuff.😢

Something I noticed is if you look at Sean while the gang is discussing if they were set up, he doesn't say a word.

I clicked on this to see what lies you would spew about my main man, and then I was convinced in the first 60 seconds

My hot take is that people say Sean would have sided with Arthur because they like him as a character, not taking in account that he defends Dutch in a similar way to Javier. Both Lenny and Kieran called out Dutch in one way or another. If he survived until Chapter 6, who's to say that Sean wouldn't have been stressed? Wouldn't believe in the same things that Javier had? There is a real possibility that Sean would have stabbed Arthur in the back.

When Sean is seen shooting the bottles before asking Arthur to get himself involved in the robbery, him missing the shots might also be due to stress and his attempts to calm his nerves - because he had tipped off the law about the robbery.

Never noticed any of this just changed my whole view on Sean 😭✌️

Sean was always one of "those" friends. A guy who seems and to a degree truly is a good friend to some people. But in his life away from "the boys" he's just a prick.

I've unfortunately known people like Sean. All fun and "one of the lads" on face value and in group situations but as you get to know them and see how they act in more private situations you realise they are not good people.

I think its clever the way the  game "plays" the player in that respect whereby you don't really see Sean's true character unless you go looking for it, otherwise you might just think 'yeah he's just the funny laidback one'

Another thing you didn't mention: The little irish guy we know as Sean who is for a fact a loud mouth and constantly joking about everything at all times, especially when things get heated didn't speak a SINGLE WORD as soon as the rest of the members started discussing the possibility of the train robbery being a set up. As much as I like Sean and hate to admit it, this makes perfect sense, great investigation.

Damn Sean bullying Kieran really made me hate him, he couldnt talk like that to more capable and intimidating men like Arthur, John, Charles etc so gotta boss around a weaker dude what a POS

The “Colm” vs “Colom” argument at 16:50 was almost certainly written after the game started development. Roger Clark was raised in Ireland and was very adamant that the name is “Colom” and the game’s director argued that “Colm” what Americans would say.

The gang didn't need a rat. As arthur said, the gang was way too sloppy. The law probably focused more on trains since they were aware of the Cornwall train robbery that happened right after the blackwater massacre

I don't think he was speaking to the Pinkertons, but I do think he told local police about the train robbery in order to have a shoot-out with them. He's young and wants the glory/wants to be like Arthur and John.

I love that Molly sounded so offended by that west briton dig

Sean is like Henry from Mafia 2, they are beloved characters who’s deaths hurt the players but if you pay attention to their interactions and how they behave from cutscenes or just in general you learn pretty quick that the characters are not as good as people think they are.

I love that the Hosea-Sean interactions in Chapter 2 is just Hosea jumpscare, followed by ‘make yourself useful’
