And now it got a Switch 2 update.

The game that never dies

By the time world finally came out… Mario kart 8 had been the main Mario kart for over half my life

@RefreshingMirage 1 month ago

Ah yes, the game that released on a dead console, got revived 3 years later, got nothing for 5 years, and came back to life for a year and a half

5:50 no joke, I thought you were gonna say “he took those team members aside and shot them” LMAO

21:07 ACTUALLY, Mario circuit IS in the final version of the ceremony screen, but it chooses one of the four levels randomly after finishing a stage, it doesn’t JUST pick one level. I’m not sure if you missed this or not, but wanted to point to us out.

This game existed for what feels like my entire life. It became such a cultural cornerstone in gaming thanks to the Switch and its MASSIVE success. Can't wait to watch this episode!

It's really crazy to think back on Mario Kart 8's development when we've had it for so many years at this point

I have to give Mario Kart 8 credit for surviving as the latest console MK for a full decade. It’s been like that so long that I forgot how little it had at launch.

For some reason, the cut content that peeves me the most is the underground Goomba. It’s such a simple thing that they forgot to do.

It feels pretty weird now that Mario kart 8 isn’t the latest console release in the franchise anymore.

14:02 So... We're not gonna talk about the unique early idle animations? 'Cause i certainly don't remember Mario even bumping his fist like that in the final game...

God, all those trailers and the Mario Kart 8 Direct take me WAY back. I still remember being there for all of them when they premiered. MK8 felt like a huge deal to me. This is probably the most nostalgic video on the channel for me.

Fitting how your sponsor is Pac-Man related, as he was the first non-Mario character to appear in Mario Kart thanks to the arcade games.

Also, 8 is a significant entry too; being the first playable appearance of my beloved Roy Koopa.

Got this game 9 years ago, when i got my switch at the age of 11. All these years later I still go back to Mk8 deluxe once in a while. Truly a timeless classic in my opinion.

15:25 I actually know that font, it's actually called "New Rodin" and it was used a lot in UI in games like the Wii Sports series, as well as being pretty popular in signage around Japan.

It's actually also used as the main menu font for Mario Kart 8 itself! Which is probably why they used it in the demo as a placeholder

Imagine the next Mario Kart introduced the Drill mushroom that can skip through grassy shortcuts, but creates bumpy dirt like a Monty mole that others can trick on.

@supermariohack3218 1 month ago

Still curious how varied the track theming could've been for a Mario Kart all about drill into the underground...

Ah yes Mario Kart 8, I remember it was one of the first games I pre-ordered 4 months before the release date.

When I got the game. It was a fun experience showing the game off to my friends and sister and seeing them react to the tracks.

So many good memories with the game, Thanks for that nostalgia trip, Beta64!
