I'm a structural analysis engineer at Boeing and they teach us about this crash in our new hires courses. I remembered the lessons from this accident, but my memory of the specifics was getting fuzzy. I always like your videos, so when I saw the title I knew I had to watch right away!

Dan-Air even adjusted their inspection schedule knowing they were running an older fleet. It's like everyone was trying to do everything right for a change, and they just got betrayed by the limits of the abilities of engineering of the day.

As part of my material science curriculum leading to my career as an advanced materials aerospace engineer (in the late eighties) I took several courses in deformation mechanics, especially fatigue crack propagation (FCP). As I embarked on my career, I was frequently shocked by the lack of materials research involved in design decisions. Finite element analysis was still in its early stages, and computer modeling in its infancy. Materials that had great strength to weight ratios might still have poor cyclical fatigue performance, especially in corrosive environments and/or paired with dissimilar materials. Bottom line, this was one of the best educational videos on FCP and load transference I've seen! You guys did yourselves proud👍👏.

These videos have made me a better leader. Instead of focusing exclusively on people and what they do, I tend now to really try to understand the system that people are operating in to better understand root causes. It’s so easy in disasters to blame the pilot/driver/whatever, but these videos make it clear there are usually broad system failures where humans trying their best end up in bad outcomes. I've learned this is often true in organizations - misaligned incentives, lack of processes, unclear expectations. Digging deeper is usually more helpful than blaming

I come from a family of av geeks, so I’ve heard about a lot of different aviation accidents. I’d never heard of this one, despite how pivotal it was in changing aircraft design philosophy. As a ( once upon a time ) B707 pilot, I appreciate this explanation. Flew the B707 with Skystar, Pan Aviation ( executive B720 )and then Guyana Airways until 1993.
