Best video I have watched with regards to this topic. Insightful, thought-provoking, balanced, and explained everything in simplicity.

This is the best video on this topic I've ever heard.  Thank you, mate.

Great vid Geo mate , Its a systematic rule failure that needs to be re-addressed or tweeking as you say that gives balance throughout the league imo .

This is a really good video. I didn’t even think about the European perspective. You’re right. You can bet the Europa league and Europa conference will have an English club in the final again this year, probably to win.

I agree the rules should, at the very least, be looked at and probably be changed. The point remains that MC (and other clubs) agreed to abide by the rules…and MC didn’t.

Should I be surprised by you producing rich and refreshing content? Not in the slightest. Great alternative viewpoint on football finances, Geo. It’s always good to hear a different perspective rather than the same old talking points. Looking forward to your next video.

Excellent research, but I will never be convinced that a club in trouble has points deducted / administration, small clubs need help not a lift to the cliffs edge.

The fact that City had to go to the lengths that they have just to compete says it all about the Premier League. Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford will never win the Premier league along with all the other clubs outside the cartel - just there to make the numbers up. I remember Steau Bucharest and Red Star Belgrade winning the European Cup. Modern football is a shadow of what it was in terms of entertainment and competition and everyone knows it.

There are smaller clubs voting for PSR to stop clubs like Villa and Newcastle getting too far ahead of them as well as the Cartel 6 keeping them down.

Points well made throughout.

Fans should be angry at the authorities that set up these ridiculous financial rules so to create a closed shop of only 1 or 2 clubs that can only compete for trophies and thus kill any competition. That's where the anger should be directed at.

Man City are pioneers.
Scrap the financial rules.
Break up the cartel.

This whole situation is obviously  way bigger than football rules being broken and the appropriate  punishment as it has enormous  political,  diplomatic  and economic implications,  made all the more critical given the wars in the Middle East and the global energy crisis. Not expecting a quick resolution  to this. Setting aside for the moment  the wider implications,  there has been little debate about whether  the rules are fit for purpose and exactly  what the rules are there to achieve - clarity over fair competition objectives  and sound financial  governance for instance. As fans, our voices on how the game is run get marginalised.

The thing is though, Geo, West Ham and Leeds and Newcastle etc. are still getting the same level of players as Other Europa/Conference league clubs from Europe but are paying far more money for them due to the amount of money in the Premier league. How many overpriced European flops have West Ham and other Prem clubs ended up with?

The PSR rules were brought in to stop clubs spending beyond their means and going out of business like Leeds, Bournemouth, Sheffield Wednesday etc. They are not perfect and have unintended consequences. It would be interesting to hear a Bournemouth supporters perspective, because they are reaching that ceiling of achievement (probably) but equally 10-15 years ago, they nearly didn’t exist.

The alternative is to let rich owners spend whatever they want. Villa and newcastoe benefit but sunderland, brentford, bournemouth brighton who are happy with their owners, running club sustainably and being competitive in europe then cant compete fiancially with 10 or so other clubs, not just big 6.

The problems arise when owners leverage the club against loans to try and be more successful. Saddle the club with debt then bugger off and leave the club worse than where they were.
On the other hand buying a club and not being able to invest in your asset to build its profile is also wrong.
Not sure what the solution is but the current system does not work at the high end of the leagues or allow clubs to effectively compete with legacy teams(who let's be honest have had years to build fan bases and profiles without real restrictions).
I don't know what the answers are but the current system only does half the job.

In completely unrelated matters, I had this insane thought that maybe there's a Little St James type island in the Persian Gulf vicinity. Pandora's box is open now I am afraid

Being the silly old fart that that I am I never miss an opportunity to say that it was more fun in the 60ies and 70ies.
Between 1960 and 1974, ten different clubs won the league title.
Liverpool 3 titles
Leeds, Everton, MU two tiles each
Burnley, Tottenham, Ipswich, MC, Arsenal and Derby one title each

Burnham is trying to get them off - phone calls to and from the UAE no doubt!
