Has this Premier League season become a FARCE? | Football Ramble

There's been a lot of talk about potential sanctions Manchester City could face for all these charges they've been found guilty of, but has anybody given much thought to the Premier League season that is actually going on right now?

Luke, Jim & Vish are here to discuss what this season could mean for the other clubs up and down the league. Plus, an early shout for the England outsiders we think could go to Euro 2028 (Marcus would have been in his element), and John Prescott as a football manager.

Burnham's comments on Man City trying to say they shouldn't be punished much are probably his biggest blunder since becoming PM.

The Premier League, other teams and the football community at large cannot be allowed to be held hostage by Man City and their owners.

To City fans: when the club reported, years ago, they had made more sponsorship revenue than any other club in world football, weren't you a little suspicious?

@bearimo2867 12 hours ago

The owners are used to a world where No is not something they ever hear. This explains the absolutely ridiculous irresponsible comical Ali delusional statements. They are just not used to being held to account or admitting wrongdoing.

Luke isn't nearly pissed enough. Portsmouth had a 1 million bonus on tne sale of Glen Johnson if Liverpool won the league in 13/14. That might have stopped them going to the wall if they'd gotten it at the time

Why is it meaningless? There are 19 other clus following the rules who are competing for the title. The Premier League is bigger than one corrupt club. And for the first time in years, they can compete knowing that another another club are not involved in illegal fraud and lies.

Who else knows deep down in the pit of their stomach, that the verdict on City will ultimately keep Spurs from going down this season.

“It’s like the Supreme Court of the United States!”. Yes, or the Supreme Court of England and Wales if you want a slightly better example.

Can't see the fans being any better than the Chelsea fans were when voicing their support for Abramovich - bought and paid for (and got the receipts, honest)

Only this season? Try the last 10+ seasons

Every single season since 2008 has been a farce.

Even without sanctions. If city are made to work within their means, can they afford to just honour the existing player/manager contracts?

I appreciate you guys saying at the end that we as City fans have been lied to as well. I understand everyone's anger towards us as a club, just try to remember this is terrible ownership that deserves very harsh punishment. However there are real fans that filled out Maine Road in the third tier that deserve a football club to support and be proud of. Take away the titles, relegated the club and give a billion pound fine, give us a 100 point deduction and 30 point deductions for the next 10 years I dont care but don't take away our football club. We didn't pick these owner, we celebrated because of course we did. Find me a fan of any club who wouldn't. One of the punishments has to be a forced sale in the next year and life bans for all directors involved.

Just don't take the club away, that is not fair to the people who that actually affects which is real fans.

All the seasons have been like this one, the only difference is we now know for sure they are cheating.

Every past season should feel like this one feels now. Its gross what they gave done to this sport.

There’s also not a chance they suddenly went fully legit after the period under investigation ended. They’ve been doping the whole time.

I don’t feel any sympathy for the City fans. There’s not a chance you think they’ve been fully legit the whole time.

I struggle to see how people can keep saying the players/staff didn't know. Isn't Yaya Toure supposed to be have been paid through special arrangements to keep money off the books? Wasn't Mancini the same?

Are we meant to believe they didn't have any idea why that was?

@PhilBourne-g5u 11 hours ago

Abu Dhabi will sell asap. A marketing asset that made them liked and respected, can only now make them hated and distrusted

@tommo-f7f 8 hours ago

This should have been sorted in the summer break (or 10 years ago!). City should have been relegated, another team promoted in their place and a fresh start all round. Now every game that City play is suspect....

@danielb7143 12 hours ago

Is anything overly draconian? It's also not actually unprecedented. I've said this elsewhere but the reason I support Leeds United is because when Leeds City FC were caught in a scheme to make illegal payments to players and staff it was a serious enough offence to expel the club from the football league and they had to form a phoenix club in Leeds United.

I'm not being funny, that's the only acceptable punishment, along with of course the criminal charges that need to be brought against everyone involved in this massive fraud scheme.

10:50 They've scored an average surplus of 40 points per season over the period under investigation when compared to the remainder of their time in the Premier League.
So that would be -40 pts for 9 seasons they're in the Premier League.
