"Bear is flawed but he's flawed in very normal ways"... I love when the point just flies over people's heads. "A lot of people do it, so it's fine" is NOT a good reason to keep doing horrible shit.

"You're not smart enough to get it." No, i'm just not stupid enough to succumb to it...

Anyone defending Bear is self reporting ngl

A second Alex Meyers has hit the internet.

"Crime has to have intent"

False, crime is when you do something against the law: intentional or not.

Driving home drunk and killing someone because you hit them with a car is an unintentional killing but it is still very much a crime. It's TWO crimes: driving drunk and killing someone.

A lot of the time when people rape someone, they're not out here twiddling their mustache and being like "muahaha i'm going to rape someone", it's "i want this thing and so i'm going to get this thing regardless because only my feelings matter."

I can't stand when I hear the discourse and people are like "he thought she was on something" — that's still rape.......

Listening to this reviewer try and excuse Bear’s sexual assault because he didn’t “intend” to harm Nicki gave me soooo much ick.
I’ll tell it like it is, straight from Kratos so maybe these dudes will listen to another dude tell them: “Intent does not matter, only consequences.”
You absolutely can unintentionally harm someone, accidentally running someone over with your car does not take away from the fact that you ran someone over with your car!

The entire point of Bear as a character, and I believe Curry Barker may have actually said this in an interview, is that he ISN'T the stereotypical incel. He's a "nice guy." He's someone Nikki trusted enough to drive her home; someone she felt close enough to confide in about her writing when she couldn't talk about it with anyone else. For most women who experience SA, the men who attacked us were our friends. Boyfriends. Confidants. People we trusted and loved.

That is the entire point, and that a percentage of men refuse to see that what Bear did is wrong BECAUSE he isn't the stereotypical incel is very, very scary.

This kinda take completely ignores the scene where Niki begs Bar to kill her. And he says “is being with me that bad?” He KNEW. And he still wanted to take advantage of her. Until he found out about Sarah liking him

If being indecisive wasn't an evil, Chidi wouldn't have ended up in The Bad Place. Recognize that your actions hurting people.

It’s concerning that he only would consider it rape if Bear knew that there was a demon in her body. So it’s not rape to have sex with a person who is impaired and under the influence of drugs/alcohol? Who is emotionally vacant and unable to think rationally and make life altering decisions? WHO has a mental breakdown in the middle of intimacy and you KEEP GOING??? At what point does he consider an action rape or sexual assault? If the criteria for assaulting someone is for them to be demonically possessed, then I don’t think that bodes well for real life women in his life. And if not the women in HIS life, the women in the lives of the people who watch his review and agree with his weird blurred boundaries and excusal of bad behavior.

“At this point, she begins to throw her fit” is very telling

The way he treated his cat tells you all you need to know about Bear. Probably didn‘t feed her enough so she tried to eat the pills. And he didn‘t care enough so he didn‘t put the lid on properly or put the medication somewhere where the cat couldn‘t get it. He put her into a trash bag and he didn‘t cry because his cat was dead, he cried because of the situation with Nikkie and him being too cowardly to be honest with her.

“at this point no time has elapsed”
proceeds to explain a long list of events that presumably took place over some length of time.

the literal director: bear is a villain.
the actor who plays bear: bear is a villain.
this guy: if you think bear is a villain, you're illiterate.
imagine missing the point this badly.

People claiming Bear "didn't know" are just assuming he's the stupidest person ever. He clearly knew she was not in the right headspace for any type of relationship. I swear, the people defending Bear are the same people who are happy when someone they have a crush on is miserable, because that means it might be "easier" to take advantage of them. Even though this movie is "fiction", to me, it's an exaggeration of reality. A woman going through a hard time, a guy seeing that and still decides to take advantage of the situation and then pretending like he was the victim all along.

If anyone defended Bear around me, I would know that person needs to be AVOIDED at all costs.

I love that he keeps accusing others of not understanding aspects of the film while actively missing the mirror it's holding up to people like him. Bear is a mundane, unassuming monster, and his sympathizers are the same breed of monster.

4:57 Bear didn't decide to kill himself to save Nikki. He did it because he was tired of dealing with her and knew there was no way out. Even if the actor didn't add the brilliant touch of Bear forcing himself to vomit the pills because he chickened out, the audience would still have known that deep down he was killing himself to save himself only. He never thought of Nikki

Mediocre manipulative white dudes have been raised as the main character so much so that they can’t imagine watching a movie with a “them” protagonist fixating on a prize girl and have it turn out not to just be a “good guy” facing “plot stuff”.   They can’t imagine him not getting his chosen love as anything other then her being a friend zoning tease who is also SUPER SCARY.
The Willow device is secondary to their entitlement to the chosen girl.

For those of us who are not that guy - we have grown up watching cinema catered to them and sitting next to them in life.
What creeps me out most about the normalcy of Bear is how much of a pouty parasite he is.   This is framed just in his hinted back story.   Not only is he squatting in the shadow of the life of his Nanna he seems to have just put her house on like a discarded sweater with no empathy or reverence for Nanna.   I think Sandy was her cat he promised to care for - in the death shot we see cans of cat food all around the body as if he were just throwing them there like a chore he didn’t want.   He was self medicating with Nanna’s pills and left them out while blaming the cat for getting into them.  Depression and executive disfunction are real but rather then camp out on the sofa he moved straight into Nanna’s room and sleeps in her bed with the hat boxes still in the corner.   Did he even wash the sheets?  I think his sweater collection isn’t a signature style as much as just his dead grandfather’s half of the closet in that room.
Bear is the poster child for entitled no effort special boy who just sits and pouts until someone cuts the crusts off his toast for him.   Even Nikki tries like mad to get him to admit his obvious feelings so she can (my opinion) politely turn him down and tell him it isn’t happening.   Having been in that spot enough times I know it’s better to address this shit because the silent nice guy friend needs to know what’s up.   Either he agrees to just be friends or you become his enemy and I would rather a nice guy hate me anyday then have him sit next to me building the pressure of inner rage.
Bears rage at Nikki is real and it comes out in the crying title screen when he asks why can’t she love him, in the wish when he asks not to change himself but to change her, and in the bedroom when he tells trapped Nikki what’s so bad about loving him before leaving her crying and trapped.   He hates her - he just wants to own her.

All the dudes who watch this and sympathize tell on themselves.
