BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING:

I know the ad spot was like 2 minutes long. The original one I made was four minutes long because I went off on a tangent about how complicated it is (and almost impossible) to permanently fight off people who want to sell your data. It's genuinely a very interesting kind of market that's popped up and I would make a whole video about it if I was Coffeezilla. DeleteMe were the ones who said that people wouldn't want a four minute ad so you can thank them that I only wasted two of your minutes instead of four. Pray that they're able to control me next time as well.

Anyway yes NEW SPONSOR ALERT congratulations to everyone.

I hope you enjoyed my Skyrim edging video.

The day before Skyrim was first released, I launched up oblivion and put my ~400 hour character at the northern edge of the map looking north, and then saved and quit the game. So he would be watching over my entire Skyrim play through.

One of my most vivid memories in gaming is noticing the newspapers blowing around in GTA 3, walking to them and realising you couldn't make the camera look all the way down. So we looked around for ages to get a sniper rifle. Then we came back to the spot, waited for newspapers again. Finally saw one, ran over and sighted it through the sniper rifle and there you go... You can read the newspaper!

I think that's the feeling Austin is talking about here: The tingle of a hint of a feeling you could disappear inside the game.

small correction: Castle Volkihar is actually part of the main Skyrim map, and you can just swim all the way to it but the swim is so monotonous that Bethesda decided to add the Icewater Jetty to help you move between the castle and shoreline faster (this is unlike Fort Dawnguard which is actually in a separate map)

This is the definition of "I have never in my life considered even coming close to caring enough to ask this question, but since you mention it, I'm extremely curious."

As someone who has played an ungodly amount of Skyrim, and was instantly familiar with several of these locations, there's something surreal about watching a video where someone else talks about them. Like these locations wouldnt show up in a playthrough series or a video about lore. They're places that are almost exclusive to your own experience of the game. But, of course, this is Any Austin.

Remember Meridia's quest? Not the "ANOTHER HAND TOUCHES THE BACON" part, but the one where shi lifts you up into the sky? Well, you can just not talk to her. I've spent a lot of time just running around high in the air, looking for something interesting and seeing the White-Gold Tower blew my mind. It's just there, south of Skyrim, approximately where it should be!

"Staring up at the Northern lights while you're deciding whether or not to go to bed" is so specific and accurate. It's that moment when you realize it's very late in Skyrim, but very late in the real world too 😂

What I find fascinating is how deep the water is near the edge of the map. Like actually try it as an Argonian, it’s insanely deep.

18:35 Fun Fact: Castle Volkihar is actually on the map, and you are able to swim to it. They could've just made it a different cell, but they didn't, and I think that's pretty neat

One of my favorite Skyrim moments was the invisible wall not loading without me realizing, walking south to Cyrodiil as the world became less and less detailed.

Not many people know about the story of King Arthur and the Exploding Dragon, so thank you for giving it the attention is deserves.

8:06 Fun detail I found at Deepfolk Crossing a while back: Special Edition added a fishing spot there, and if you fish at it, you’ll just catch a bunch of dwarven metal junk. It helped make me feel like I had found a truly forgotten place - looters had not yet even scavenged these surface-level artifacts on the stream bed

There’s a gentle philosophy to Austin’s videos that always goes unmentioned but which I find deeply inviting and quietly crucial. It’s present in several ways but I mostly see it his willingness to find beauty and meaning in places and features we might otherwise ignore, and in his resistance to label mechanics good or bad; they simply are. Good stuff. Keep it coming.

Everything i watch your videos i think "this man needs a job" but then I see the video has 280k views in 9 hours and I think, "why do I have a job?"

The Abandoned Border Gate location you analyse at the beginning of the video actually leads into Hammerfell not Cyrodiil. The one leading into Cyrodiil, more specifically Bruma county, would be Pale Pass, the snowy road in the mountains you describe at the end.

I love that Bethesda included a low res imperial city with the white gold tower in Skyrim, but you can only see it by glitching out of bounds in riften and going over the mountains. They didn't have to do it but they did and I like that.

How tf did this guy convince me that Skyrim mountain climbing is actually a good game mechanic? Like he's completely right.

Can't delay an Elder Scrolls game without a release date!

13:48 and with that I realised I have actually stood on that same piece of ice, tried jumping to the other and thought "this must be the edge." What a weird and obscure coincidence to connect back to a long forgotten memory.
