Amusingly, in Friday the 13th Part II, a number of camp counselors leave to go drinking in the city early on. As a result, they're not shown again, meaning they made it out fine.

Thing is that in Backrooms, usually you dont find a two-way entrance like Clark, you just clip in and have to find a new way out, and probably die before you do

My favourite example of "just leave" is in the SCP short film Black Meridian, in which the protagonist, a special forces operator who thinks he's just going to deal with a regular human drug dealer and is thus reasonably confident he can handle the op on his own, encounters a mysterious, spooky glowy eyed silhouette on the premises. He immediately fires two rounds into center mass, and upon observing no appreciable effect on target, he tries to bail right away. He gets pulled into a mindscape genjutsu thing for a minute, but after breaking out of the illusion, he picks up his helmet and gun and just gets the hell out. The very moment he discerns that he is up against a supernatural threat, his objective changes from "secure the perimeter" to "get the hell out and let someone with bigger guns deal with this mess," and I respect the hell out of that.

Final destination is the perfect example of where leaving isn't an option. Good luck escaping death.

In Scream 2, Gale’s new cameraman leaves as soon as shit gets dicey, then he returns at the end to help shoot the story after the killers are dead.

"Just leave" fell apart as soon as you got to "Your car broke down in the middle of the desert"

As Above, So Below. Turns out everyone who DIDN'T go down the big creepy "do not enter" tunnel and keep going after multiple accidents and steal the big magical "do not steal" stone WAS COMPLETELY FINE!!

Maddie in Hush is deaf, so telling her to "just leave" when there's a killer waiting for her outside and who had already slashed her car tires is so... 😭

You’re next: they tried leaving and got killed
Hush: leave the house, killer waiting for you outside

Hush isnt a great example. She would have no clue if he comes creeping behind her. It's nighttime and she relies on her other senses to hear,  so she would be cooked in 1 sec.

alot of these feel like kinda bad faith arguments, like if your car breaks down or you get stranded somewhere you cant leave, that's literally the definition of being stranded. you applaud saw for leaving being the goal, but thats the case for a lot of movies, like in the shining, they're snowed in.

The main character in Texas Chainsaw Massacre DOES leave and (spoilers for a 50 year old movie) she walks into the gas station and it turns out that it’s run by one of the family members and he brings her back to the house. She had to leave a bit further.

5:25 the ring is super easy, just dont watch the tape labeled "Dont watch or youll die"

I feel like for a lot of the “Just leave” answers, the characters have valid reasons to stay, like the people in Crystal Lake don’t know Jason is lurking, or that there’s a home invader until it’s too late like in Hush. Even in Barbarian, the situation is definitely strange but I wouldn’t think a murderous naked grandma was living in the basement of that Airbnb 😂 Great Vid though

Room 1408 unfortunately you can't leave if you've been in there long enough to realise it's haunted

1:31 In “Hush” she does try to leave, and it leads to her being severely harmed; she has no idea how loud she is being when moving around, and iirc another person shows up to help her and they get got, even though they can hear. The killer comes from the nearest (but not actually close) house to hers, so he’s perfectly fine with traveling.

“The Strangers” are a group of people, so the protagonist couple would still be outnumbered if they left the house.

I know “Hush” takes place in the middle of the woods, and iirc so does “The Strangers”, and both at night; so if any of the protagonists left, they’d be risking getting lost in the woods, tripping over roots or burrows, and also wouldn’t have the option of hiding somewhere with four walls and a door.

Jason leaves quite often actually. Part two features him travelling to some girls apartment. He goes to a different planet, hell, elm street, all over the country while body hopping, different areas adjacent to camp crystal lake in every movie, a boat, Manhattan. He absolutely does travel.

The real solution to him is don't go to crystal lake to begin with. Once you're there you're kinda cooked.

I think the problem with the thing that follows is that once it's killed the person you passed it to, it will come back for you at any time

5:00 You can't, actually, and the movie actually shows it. See, everyone forgets the whole "you still need to make a living" out of the constantly moving plan. Unless you have an abundance of money so that you can spend the rest of your life flying from country to country and spending your life in hotels without having to work, you'll be stuck living in abandoned houses doing quick, cheap jobs in order to feed yourself until you eventually have to leave for the next place. And if you didn't manage to get enough money to get a plane ticket, you're gonna have to hitch a ride. Not to mention getting all the visas you need to go to other countries, which take time and generally aren't easy to get if you can't keep a job and live in abandoned houses. In short, anyone who says "just move around" isn't actually thinking it through at all.

This always bugs me in movies, there's so many home invasion stories in particular where if you just climbed out a window and hid somewhere you would be fine, unless you have reason to suspect the killer is supernatural/superhuman in some way they're not gonna magically know you ran off in some random direction and hunkered down. If you're not hiding from Wolverine they won't find you.
