Ibrox Stadium hides a marble staircase behind a red brick wall, and once a year a silver cup is carried into a room almost nobody ever sees.

13 unbelievable things nobody tells you about Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow — a football ground with the interior of an Edwardian bank, rebuilt in the seventies as a copy of a German stadium, and holding a promise made by a stranger in 1937 that has never once been broken.

Rangers have played in Govan, on the south bank of the Clyde, since the last days of the nineteenth century. Fifty-one thousand seats. A category-B listed frontage the club is not allowed to redraw. And a countdown of thirteen things the tour guides never get to.

🏴 PLAN YOUR TRIP TO GLASGOW  [Werbung / Anzeige]
Glasgow International is fifteen minutes from the city centre, and the Subway — one of the oldest underground railways on the planet — has a station called Ibrox that puts you at the gates. Book the stadium tour ahead: the marble staircase and the Blue Room are the whole point. And Celtic Park is only four miles east, so do both.

🎞 A NOTE ON THIS EPISODE
Ibrox has known two of the worst days in the history of British football. They are marked in stone at the Copland Road corner. We chose deliberately not to put them on a countdown list — the dead of 1902 and 1971 belong on a memorial, not in a ranking. This film is about the other thirteen things.
