Four dresses. One bolt of linen. Zero commercial patterns.

A couple of years ago I started sewing my own clothes without using patterns — just figuring things out along the way. Since then I've made one dress, then three, then six, then eight, and somewhere in there I broke the whole process down into five simple decisions I now use every time: top, silhouette, skirt, details, and life.

To really put that system to the test, I took 11 yards of the same beautiful linen and made four completely different dresses from it, same starting point, entirely different results. In this video I'm walking through the five decisions that made that possible.
