I Spent a Year Making This Quilt

This quilt took a year, start to finish: from picking an unusually generous amount of goldenrod in a field last summer, through a winter of slow, one-square-every-other-week piecing, into a spring spent chasing a backing dark and saturated enough to match it. The front is dyed entirely with goldenrod, modified with copper and iron to pull orange and greenish-gray out of what is normally just a soft yellow. The back is the same goldenrod fabric overdyed with indigo, pieced into a tiny tile design after an earlier gingham attempt got taken apart with a seam ripper and started over. It's a reversible quilt, one side sunny and warm, the other a deep sea of blue, meant to be used depending on what mood you're in rather than hung on a wall.
This video follows the whole process, dyeing, piecing, basting, hand-sewn binding, and the label at the end.

Crochet often feels like a record of time as one stitch often feels like a second of my life. There’s something kind of lovely about thinking of it that way.
Any sewing project that I can slow down by extra embellishment, detail, hand sewing etc is my time hobby. Also art projects, anything that puts you in a flow state is magical x
