genuinely why didnt she just say she alters premade dresses, there's a market for that and she can undercut more luxury prices that way. the architect of her own downfall fr
The fact that all of the prototype dresses are so different and stop fitting her after the first one makes me think they are not custom at all. I think she has a bunch of stock patterns(at least for the prototypes) which is why she couldn't fix the two things alexander was asking for
We have to start playing response bingo, "I've gotten death threats" "I never said that" "I'm sorry you feel that way" "you should have talked to me before posting" "this is so bad for my business :("
I am not personally a dressmaker, but my mom has been sewing my entire life and I have to say: I don't think she made ANY of these dresses. I think she found three different cheap dresses (that whole upcycle thing) and was attempting to make it look custom
Hello! Fashion student and artist here! Tbh even before you got to Kate's side, I could immediately tell what she's doing. Most likely she's only a stylist buying premade dresses, because absolutely NONE of them have the same seams or "tombé" (french is my first language idk how to translate to english, but its basically the way clothes fall of the body depending on how the clothes was constructed and cut). Most likely she only edits them to fit the bride, tbh maybe even the drawing itself was made by a preset (like those things that show you how the clothes you look like when you buy some pattern templates). There's no way that FOUR fittings could have such drastic differences unless they were four different dresses, hell, that second dress, the way it was pinned looks it has FOUR INCHES too much, that is CRAZY. Fittings usually should only have around ONE inch difference, but only for the FIRST one, the rest should have a maximum of 1/4 inch to be acceptable.
Kate is 100% just buying cheap dresses and scamming brides to pretend that they're custom.
I did a 3 month pattern-making and sewing workshop for PET CLOTHING and from my pathetic experience I can tell you fashion design is literally akin to architecture, a person with no training charging 5000+ for a dress is insane
9:18 That’s…not the same dress. Dress A and Dress B are genuinely not the same dress. And I don’t mean that A was a prototype and B was the actual, I mean there is /nothing/ about B that is the same as A.
Edit: Yeah, my best guess is she’s using premades and just changing bits of them.
I'm a former bridal seamstress and offering custom wedding gowns with no technical garment construction education is actually crazy. I had 10+ years of personal sewing experience, 3 years of technical sewing classes, and 2 years of professional sewing experience and even then I wasn't trusted to do more than hems, pinning, and easily reversible alterations for the first three months I worked at that job. And I worked for a sketchy ass bridal shop in a suburban mall! There's a lot in the fashion industry that you can stumble into from a hobby, but custom wedding gowns? That's just not how it works.
as a sewist who has made strapless dropwaist dresses before, I kept waiting for the reveal that she was just buying pre-made dresses because I cannot think of any other reason as to why the dresses all look vastly different, while not looking like the sketch OR having any of the wanted changes OR fitting correctly.... ive made prototype/mock up clothing before, it usually takes a max of 2 or 3 before you get it right, and the changes are usually pretty small as they all pertain to things like the drape, fit, and construction of the outfit. Even changing the princess seams and dropping the waist shoulda been an easy change--IF you knew how to construct clothes and create patterns. I don't think Kate does.
"No."
